Fire at Truckee.
At three o’clock last Saturday morning a disastrous fire occurred at
Truckee. It started near the Republican office. A fierce battle prevented
the flames from sweeping Front street
and the business part of the town.
The losses are as follows: Grazier &
Stoll, brewery, $8,000, insured for $4,000 in the Girard, Firemen’s and Continental; Mrs. E, A. Keiser, printing
office and contents, $3,000, insured for
$2,000 in the Sun; A. C. Cooke, blacksmith shop and residence, $3,000, insured in the Phoenix of London for
$1,100 ;jengine house, value $1,000, no
insurance; James W. Bigham’s residence, damaged $200, fully insured.
The fire spread so rapidly that little
property was saved.

on the Republican ticket. I. J. Rolfe

done his party a great deal of service,
and if he should be fortunate enough
to defeat a Democrat in his district
for the position of Assemblyman, Nevada county will have no reason to
regret it.’’
