The people of Nevada, would feel under the greatest obligations to her si r counties of Placer, El Dorado, erra, Butte, ete, if they would unite in*bie sapport, and a strong feeling would be engendered in this county, to reciprocate the favor. Sargent possesses indomitable energy, and ‘hés ability is demonstrated by his signal e-rvices in Congress. All interests of the. Conraotven. At ‘tho ‘te: iqtest of Hon. George Oulton, Controller of State, the affairs of his office willbe thoroughly investigated by a joint committee of thé Bendte and Assembly. This demand ‘of Mr, Oulton arises from the attacks made by Ra andnymous writer through the .colmons of the San Francisco Examiner, j in Fegard-to the collection’ of Foreign Miners’ License in Trinity ’ ‘County, in’ which fraud is charged upon the Controller. We bave uo doubt that Mr, Qulton’ wilt be able to show-that the charges are ‘false, and that the investigafion will add to his reputation for integrity and competency as an officer. For the present excellent condition of State finances, much is due to the efficient State Controller. It is. probable that during. this investigation, the affuirs connected with the collection-of foreign miners’ license will be throughly sifted, and if frauds have been perpetrated they will likely be discovered. It may be that fraudulent receipts’ were. is aued in Trinity county, and they likely were, as under the gystem ado by Oalton it would be diffieult to perpetrate fraud in any othér way, except by making one receipt good fora number of taxes, The State Controller will no doubt be able to satisfy every tian thet the affairs of his office are in the best possible condition. .
