Judgment ’ turnable Monday, January 4th. “Roap Contracts.—In oliig! 8 paper . will be found thé specifications of work required-upon ‘the roads by Commis— sioner Gephard, for the coming year. They are full and explicit, and all those who wish to obtain contracts would do well to estimate the amount and value . of work to be done, befoté the time of sale. The specifications are now com. plete, with the exception of a few sec~ port and Rough & Ready townships, and the sales will take place as follows : Nevada, on Wednesday, Dec. 28d, at the Court House, between the hours of 12 M.and 3 P. M. Grass Valley, at the Exchange Hotel, ow Saturday, Dec. 26th. Rough & Ready on Thursday, Dee. 24th, at Walling’s Hotel, between the hours of 12m. and3 P.M. — Bridgeport on Tuesday, Dee: 29th, between the hours of 10 4. ai. and 1 P. M. Juan,The plan adopted by Mr. Gephard is to secure a thorough drainage for the county roads, to make a number of im— provements of a permanent character and to keepthe roads in good repair. If this plam is thoroughly carried out by successors, ina few years we will. have guod roads throaghout the couaty. The sales of contracts are open to all residents, of the county, and we advise all, and especially those who are directly interested in the maintenance ‘of: good roads, to Le on hand at the sales. The roud law, if faithfully executed will, we are satisfied, give us good roads; and contractors should understand that if they de the work it must be done in strict accordance with the specifications. L&t all who want to get work on the roads be on hand at the sale of contracts. Wurre Ping—Dr. Melntyre of this . city has.a letter from White Pine, written by # friend who has visited. every new discovery «between the Rocky Mouatains and the Pacific. He says the country is undoubtedly righ, but the cost-of living exceedingly heavy. — Flour is $18 a hundred and wood $25 a cord. Ag these are Summer prices, there will probably. be a raise im prices before the Winter is over. The climate is. exceedingly severe, He says . near White Pine of greater richness than .it is. The writer of course has interests that he expects to realize a fortune on. From these reports it is evidegt that White Pine will be a rough place to live ia during the Winter. The ground will be covered with snow to® great depth, provisions will only be inreach of a very long pufse, with people, .A working man will not be able to saye as much es he can in Nevada county.
