LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. MINING AT OmEGA—BLJSTING AND " AcciDENT.—Kidd & Co., having pur. chased the claims formerly owned by Dr. Teeple, at Omega, have been since preparing for work. One set of claims are now running, and others’ will be started soon, giving.employment to a large number of men, and adding considerably to the business of Omega. ’ On Saturday morning a blast of one hundred and six kegs of powder was discharged in one of the banks, which did excellent execation, loosing up the ground sothat it may be. washed off "with ease, After the blast was discharged, an accident occurred which came near resulting seriously. The party of spectators stood about three hundred yards off, and as soon as the blast was discharged, all moved towards the face of the bank to see how much execution thad been done, On the road was a shallow gravel sluice which had to be crossed, and the larger persons got over without difficulty. A little son of Mr. McCambridge, about seven years of ‘age, in stepping into the sluice fell as though he had been shot, and was picked up in an insensible condition. ‘He was taken to town, restoratives were used, and in fifteen or twenty minutes consciousness was restored. It is thought that the gases resulting from the explosion were conveyed by a cur‘pent of air along the sluice, and the child, being so much shorter than grown persons, inhaled the poisonous gases. The explosive used was black powder. Tae Biack & Youne’s Mitt RoxnBERY.—R. C. Black, one of the owners of the mill recently robbed at Eu.teka, informs us that they have not yet succeeded in recovering any part of _ the amalgam stolen. The amount taken was $1,200, and circumstances led. to the supposition that Chinamen ‘were the régues. The amalgamator, who is a white man, had a lame hand, and employed a Chinese to wash blankets for him. Another Chinaman employed as a cook, stated that this assistant went'to the mill on the night of the robbery, and he was thereupon arrested, but "before an investigation the cook left. Though every effort was made no trace of the amalgam could be found, nor could-sufficient evidence be obtained to fix the crime definitely upon the suspected parties. We sincerely hope that the rogues may be found, or at least that the’ amalgam may be recovered. ‘Disrricr Court, Saturday. Dec, 18.— Pleaded not guilty. ‘Trial set for 8d day of ‘January.
