BROWN. “B. J. WATSON. BROWN & WATSON, Proprietors. Mining on the Ridge. We learn that Mr. John McCarthy, who.is mining ground belonging: to the Eureka Like Co., between Cherokee and North Columbia, has been makjng excellent clean ups recently. Mr. McCartby has been working under great difficulties, having & great deal of pipe.clay to contend with and for the want of a tunnel of sufficient depth, not being able to reach bedrock. §till, hé manages to realize from top gravel 4 handsome dividend after paying all expenses. With atunnel of sufficient depthto enable him to reach bedrock, the claims he is working would yield immensely. In the neighborhood of Columbia Hill, the Eureka Lake company own claims that for the want of a tunnel: to carry off the debris, cannot be worked properly. ‘Fhe top ground has been wasbed off and.the bottom ground stillremains. It hasa depth of from 40 to 100 feet and is—richer on the Ridge. It issaid that a tunnel of 3,00U feet in length will reach said mines and open ‘up that entire section of the country for mining operations, The Eureka Uo., own . the key to the position, the outlet,; by Druggist in all parts of the Uniaud with an expenditure of one hundred thousand dollars or thereabouts, can open up.the ricbest mineson the Pacific Coast.—San Juan. Times. ~~ me Mining Claims Sold. Last week the «mining claims sit—uated-at Empire Flatin this town-1 ship, bear French Correa] and known as the Esperanze or Trust and Hope claims, were sold in nart, to Judge V.G. Bell, for the sum of $32,000. ‘three fourths, belonging to E, D. Evans, John Davis, Howell W. Thomas and Wm. W. Williams. Henry Powell claims to own the other fourth of these claims, but his right is disputed. by a Mr. Ponce, a Frenchman. A suit at law is now pending between Ponce and Powell, to determine the ownership. It was tried at the Marysville District Court in June last, and a verdict rendered in favor of Powell. The case stands on appeal in the.Supreme Court. The amount paid by Mr. Bell for the interest purchased by him was not disproportioned to the value of the claims by any means. It is surmised that the purchase was made in the interest of the Milton Mining Company. —San Juan Times. — > oe Ponad’s Extract Ought to bein every fumily ready for use.
