~ and extent “sake don’t tey to build yourself up an r The Daily Transeript, _ NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA. Thursday. ‘ December, 2, 1880. ae a A Ritinous Policy. Troy, New York, Nov. 1, 1839. _—— -——, Esq.—-Dear Sir—I am negotiating for the purchase of a quartz mine in, your vicinity known as the : , but do not wish to go to any heavy expeas3 till T have ascertained all the facts regarding its reputation among practical miners rizht there for richness, permanence : It is offered to me for ——— dollars, which I regard as-very reasonable in case the property is as represented ag ite owners throagit their agent here.— Being advised of your reliability and experience in such matters, I take the sum of this matter. Whatever you may say will be by me regarded as fiual ‘to the extent thatif the report is favorable I will at once start for your district with the’ view of making a personal examination of the property; and if the report be adverse FE will entertain the idea of purchasinz no longer. . Accompauying this you will, find @ description of the mine as given'me by the’ parties wishing to sell,”~ Yours Very Respectfully, —_ —-—ree Fo tae a, Nevada City, Cal. The recipient ofthe above at. once-. prise of the 30th ult. went -for the Heathen Cuinee, so replied to it by stating that the claim in question was not faverably regarded by most of the clear-headed men hereabouts, and that the price named was a fancy one, [Not one : word of which is trae.] The writer, however, bad a claim in the same part of the district. that was realy a desitable one, and he would be glat to dispose of it to the company that his correspondent represented. He wound up his letter by asking that its contents be kept. strictly confidential, and repeating the advice to not purchase the -—-— —— mine, but to buy his own instead. : Te result of-all this is just what sould have been foretold with ecetthe f'ranscrrer by leading Easterti tainty. The would-be purchaser-on receipt of the answer was in high dudgeon and straightway went to the agent with whom hs’ had been negotiating and showad it to him. The latter wa8 finally permitted to make a copy of both letters and they wore sent to the disapsointed mine owners here. Of course the trade has fallen through, The ony Batisfactory part of the whele proeeeding isthat the “‘reliable citizen” who made all the trouble his no earthly show of selling his property to the ‘Troy meu, who now swear they will havé nothing to do with Nevada county properties. The above is not the first or last. instance of the kind, . Wehear of them often. Alt of them terminate in. the same way, and that is to create a prejudive ‘on: “the part of Easterners against Nevada county, its people and its mineral resources, .
