» they would like to have them all in by noon
on that day. The-exercises will commence
at half past 7 o'clock. Master Walter Vandenbosh will deliver the Christmas Address,

THE PENNSYLY¥ANIA CoM PANY.—The
new quartz mill to be erected at Coy oteville, noticed by us last week, is to be built
for the purpose of crashigg rock taken from
the lead of the Pennsylvania Quartz Mining
Company. Itisto be a steam ‘mill, and
will cost $6,000 instead of $3,200. The
lead owned by this company has been worked for some time, and the rock taken out
was crushed at custom mills, always, paying
well. The last lot crushed was 74 ons,
and it paid $45 per ton. The ledge is now
19 inches in thickness, easily worked, and
it is continually getting better. The Pennsylvania elaims are supposed to be on the
same ledge as the Gold Tunnel Co.'s, and
wmany others, Though broken in maiy
_ Places it can be traced from the ridge a mile
below town to Selby Flat, a distanee of about
three miles. The Pennsylvania mill will be
4 permanent, paying institution when eompleted. ,
_ CoLp SNap.—The cold nights and mornings of the past few days have almost made
us doubt that we hve:-inemild climate.—
Thewwaterfroze in the pipes and a large
number of these burst. The mercury .was .
‘down. to 19° and on last Saturday night ice
formed on the-reservoir above
endugh for skating.
Goop APPoINTMENT.—The Board of
City «Trustees have appoitited Hon.. Jos.
~Kutz City Attorney: Thig js an excellent
selection. Mr. Kutz will’ faithfully attend
to the interests of the city. Ein
MEETING oF THE Fire DeLecates.—
A meeting of the Board of Fire Delegates
will be held this evening at the office of
A.A. Sargent. A full attendance is de
sired.
EASTERN NEWS.—We have news of the
total defeat of Hood's army in a series of
battles by Gen. Thomas. The line ‘of retreat was strewn with arins thrown away
by rebels. A large number of prisoners,
and forty-seven guns were captured. Thom-. as was still in pursuit of the flying rebels.
THE report that the Stockton steamer had
blown up, turns out to be a canard.
