LOCAL ‘AFFAIRS.
rg County ‘Taxes.
The: law provides that the State
and county taxes must be paid to the
Collector on or before the first Monday of January, which isthe 3d of
the mouth. As the first comes on
Saturday, and the 2d on Sunday, the
taxes must be paid before 5 o ’clock§ '
: B’M., on Friday December 3ist.
All taxes not paid at that time be-come’ delinquent, _ five percent,
will be added ‘there Tax payers
should _beaf this ne in mind. It is
the impression among many that
they can pay their taxes on the first
Monday in January without costs . ~ being added thereto, which is a mis“take. Up to tuisdime but a trifle of
_the taxes ” “baye been paid—less ‘than
the usual amount at this time of the
year by many thousands of dollars.
On! Saturday last the amouut due for
State and county taxes exceeded one .
_ handréd thousand dollars. It is
true the money market is exceedee
ingly tight, but taxes must. be paid.
Remember the last day to pay taxes
without costs being added thereto,
is before 5 o’clock, Friday afternoon,
December 3ist.

_ Robbery. 2
The barber shop of W. D. Crawford, on’ Broad street, was entered
by a burglar, between 7 and 9
o’clock on Sunday evening’ last.
Some specimens were taken from
the cabinet, and $25 in gold, and silver coin was abstracted frony the
money drawer, the whole value being about $5C. The burglar entered
probably by a false key, as, the door
and the cabinet were found-open at
alate hour Sunday night. As the
specimens were a present to Mr.
Crawford, he says he will give the
_full value of them in eoin to the
‘thief if he will leave them where he
can get. them again, and will ask no
questions. The thief can also, in
addition to the above, keep the coin
that he stole. ‘That's a liberal offer.
Keep your doors securely locked, as
there are. probably many thieves
about new.

The Railroad.
Sixteen car loads of iron for the
' narrow gauge railroad arrived at Colfax on Saturday, and seven loads
more arrived yesterday. Ties for
track laying are scarce, and a short
delay on Saturday last was.necessary ;
but we understand there was 3,000
ready at Buena -Vista ‘raneh, and
more are onthe road, so that work
will proceed as usual. The tunnel
at Town Talk ‘Hill was completed
yesterday 1 '

We Can't Talk
Without showing the condition. of
our teeth. Every laugh exposes
them. In order not to be ashamed
of them let us use that stafdard dentifrice, SOZODONT, which is ‘sure
to keep them white and -spotless.
No tartar can encrust them, no canker affect theenamel, no species of decay infest the dental bone, if SOZODONT is regularly used. It is a
botanical preparation, and its beneficial effects on the teeth and gums
are marvelous, as it removes all dis‘colorations, and renders the gums
hard and rosy. : : Sy
