The: law provides that the State and county taxes must be paid to the Collector on or before the first Monday of January, which isthe 3d of the mouth. As the first comes on Saturday, and the 2d on Sunday, the taxes must be paid before 5 o ’clock§ ' : B’M., on Friday December 3ist. All taxes not paid at that time be-come’ delinquent, _ five percent, will be added ‘there Tax payers should _beaf this ne in mind. It is the impression among many that they can pay their taxes on the first Monday in January without costs . ~ being added thereto, which is a mis“take. Up to tuisdime but a trifle of _the taxes ” “baye been paid—less ‘than the usual amount at this time of the year by many thousands of dollars. On! Saturday last the amouut due for State and county taxes exceeded one . _ handréd thousand dollars. It is true the money market is exceedee ingly tight, but taxes must. be paid. Remember the last day to pay taxes without costs being added thereto, is before 5 o’clock, Friday afternoon, December 3ist. W. Welch between now and the 2d of January. d19 _ Robbery. 2 The barber shop of W. D. Crawford, on’ Broad street, was entered by a burglar, between 7 and 9 o’clock on Sunday evening’ last. Some specimens were taken from the cabinet, and $25 in gold, and silver coin was abstracted frony the money drawer, the whole value being about $5C. The burglar entered probably by a false key, as, the door and the cabinet were found-open at alate hour Sunday night. As the specimens were a present to Mr. Crawford, he says he will give the _full value of them in eoin to the ‘thief if he will leave them where he can get. them again, and will ask no questions. The thief can also, in addition to the above, keep the coin that he stole. ‘That's a liberal offer. Keep your doors securely locked, as there are. probably many thieves about new.
