THE Lapies’ Festival.—One of the largest parties we have ever seen in Nevada was held at the Temperance Hall on last Wednesday night.on the occasion of the ladies’ festival for the Benefit of the-Catholic-Chureh. A large number weré in attendance from Grass Valley and other parts “Of the count#,; and althongh\ the house was: 80 crowded everythiug passed off pleasantly. The music. was excellent and the’supper-nnequalled. “The dancing eontinued until an. ‘early hour in the morning. There were a nuluber of extra contrivances gotten up by the ladies for the purpose of msking money, such as a postoffice, grab bags ete., and from these sources they received a large amount.” lt ig “@stimated that the Festival cleared The committee ‘deserve great eredit-for their efforts to make the festival . *gteeable, The Hall was neatly decorated PN. pnd everything was done te-tinke the teadane t . sion “gay” to all. Quaker Hill, ran off with a buggy yesterday. The race though it resulted in Itttle damage caused considerable excitement in town. Mr. Jacobs had gotten into his buggy at? Hon. A. A. Sargent’s-residence and when turning to come down town the horses. became, frightened and started to run. The buggy ran over a pile of dirt, and in attempting to hold the horses up, Mr. Jacbbs was pulled from his seat. He was dragged some distance in the mud before the horses gotaway. When free they started at light ning speed down Broad street, keeping the middle of the road. The team cleared the Broad street bridge and’started out towards Quaker Hill. In attempting to make the turn at Ferre’s house the buggy was capsized, and the horses disengiging themselves took the lower road towards the ravine. One of the horses fell into he ravine and the other’ over: him. Before he team ‘ gould regain their Teet,Put. Farnham secured them._No damage was done beyond the breaking of adash and some other trivial injury to the buggy. THe TurBiNe WureL.—An eight stamp mill, erected by .Curren & Co., at Little York, for the purpose of crushing cement, is how in successful operation. The machinery is moved by one of Fouchery’s Turbine wheels. The mill was ready to start some time since, but the parties found some diffieulty. Mr. Charronnat of this place, Fouchery’s agent fer this oounty, went up and started the mill, and since that time it has been working to acharm. Brown’s mill, at You Bet, moved by. the same wheel, will be ready to commence runping in two weeks, This wheel oceupits but little space, and for economy is unequalled. Severel other mills for crushing cement will soon be erected in the vicinity of You Bet—and Little York. ell tt Tue RESULT.—A large amount of dustis mow being brought inte this city, which «peaks well. for the great benefits bestowed upon. miners by the late rain’ As yet' very few of the large companies have cleaned up, preferring to take: advantage of the great amount .of water and~finding the resnit when water‘is not so plenty. Tue Lost Hite CLAIMS.— Williamson & Co., owners of the Lost Hill claims are busily engaged in cleaning out a cuf for the eluices and laying pipe fpr the conveyance of water to the claims. These claims are more extensive than any in the vicinity of this city and have been unworked for a umber of years. We understand that the company . will commence “piping’’ about the first'day -of January. We expect to wee large results from these claims. SENTENCED.—James Delaney, convicted of stealing a set of furs from the store of Sol. Rosenthal, was yesterday sentenced to imprisonment in the county jail for thirty days by Judge Sniith. ake CHRISTMAS GOODS.—4 splendid lot ef Fancy Goods have just been recewwed by A.
