The Daily Transcript «© Mmvapa orry.** °° LOCAL ItTEMS. Bold Bank Robbery. — On Friday last the bank of Marks & Co., at Moores Flat, was'entered and robbed of $4,000 in ¢oin, while Frank Henry, who has charge, was absent for dinner. This is one of the boldest robberies ever cpmmitted in the county. Samuel T. Henry, who has charge of the. bank, was absent at the Springs for his health. Mr. Allenburg was at San Juan, and Frank Henry. was doing the business of the bank. _The bank building is located in town where people are frequently passing by and the vault is fire and burglar proof. When Mr. ‘Henry went to dinner he locked’ the door securely, and on his return the door was found open and $4,000 missing. It is supposed the rogue had a duplicate key to the vault, and the tyme and manner of the robbery indicate that he was entirely familiar with the arrangement of “the bank, as well as the habits of its employees: At that, hour of the day, and in a town like Moores Fiat, the rogue fan great risk of detection. Heliday.’ : Christmas this year falling upon Sunday, in many pl.ces Monday has been settled upon as the day to be observed. As @ people, we have few holidays, and those usually observed should be days of rest and recreation, Printers are among the unfortunate class whose work is never slacked by dull times. So much manuscript has to be prepared, and so much type must be set, and while other business’ men rest when business is dull, printers work all the harder. It is therefore determined that the TansoniPr attaches observe one of the holidays that this year fall upon Sunday, on the day following. In consequence of this arrangement our readers will miss the usual morning visit of the Tmanscrier on Tuesday next. We advise all business men to rest and enjoy the Christmas holiday on Monday, as we propose to do, a Chfistmas Day. : This day is observed in commemoration of the birth of Christ by all Christian peoples. It is observed by the giving of presente and gvod dinners by the religious and irreligivus. To-day, in all the churches of this city, services appropriate to. the occasion wll be conducted, and )we advise all to visit some church, At the Catholic Church to-day at 11 o’clock, a grand mass, eomposed by Ed. Muller of this city, will be sung. We have heard parts of this mass in rehearsal and it is really excellent. New England Rum. Lester & Mulloy have some splendid New England Kum, eight or ten ‘years old, and some fine French Brandy, U. D. Whisky, Port Wine, ete., of superior quality. Those in need of any thing in this line should , call on them. For medicinal purposds these brands are superior to anything of the kind ever brought to this market. The Trees. ‘ The Congregational, Catholic, Baptist, Episcopa! and the Methodist Sanday Schools had ‘very handsome trees, elegantly decorated with beautiful presents last evening. Ineach of the schools interesting exercises took place. At the Methodist Sunday School J. B. Drummond represented Santa Claus in costume. Rain Promaised. Yesterday afternoon we had splendid indications of rain. The miners need rain, and would rejoice to see the end of pleasant weather, and a continued “anpleasantness in the shape of storm. be Yesterday, ali day, our merchants were busy, and many ladies were upon the streets purchasing presents suitable . for Christmas. The toy dealers did a lively business, and the Christmas trees were loaded with handsome presents for young aad old. Turkey Shooting. Yesterday, at Mulloy's, the turkey sharps engaged in the slaughter of innocents for Christmas dianers. Mulloys turkeys were fat and the marke~ men did good shooting. Tiekets Lost. Two packages containing 200 tickets of the Grass Valley lettery were lost between Nevada and Colfax. Tue finder will be suitavly rewarded by leaving . &, them at Goldemith’s stose. ver ‘Deliriam Tremeas. The Public'Seheeles 4The public schools of this city closed on Friday last, and will open again on Monday, January 2d, 1871. : REWARD. +The Eureka Gold Mining Company offer-a reward of $500 for the detection of specimen stealers.— Some one should make the reward by catching the thief. The above we copy from. the Grass . Valley Union of this, Sunday, morning, which ‘was handed us by the fascinating editor, Rufe Shoemaker, yesterday atternoon at 8 o’clock—18 hours in advance of the mail. The “prints” of the Union desired to have a good time yesterday and went to press a little early. re ee Faith Weil Founded. In old times, at the commencement of every season, it was the fashion to takea strong cathartic as a safeguard against a change of temperature. It was a worse than senseless practice, The people of our day understand the matter; better. Instead of depleting the system they rcinforcé it. In the method :bey adopt they exhibit, a wise discrimination. Instead of resorting to the vitiated stimulants of commerce,-or apy of the compounds derived from them, they put their fuith in the only absolutely pure invigorant procurable in the market—Hostetter's Stoinach Bitters. Their faith is well founded. . Never has any tonic medicine been prepared with such scrapulous precision and conscientious crre. It is a vegetable compound of which every ingredient is sound,. wholesome and MEDICINAL in the true sense of the word. Now, we have three prominent national complaints. One-half of the adult population of the United States suffer more or less, either from diseases of the stomach, derangements of the liver, or affections of the kidneys, in no other land under Heaven ate these maladies so general as in this country, and Hostetter's Bitters is a specific for.them all, unless organic in their origin, and, therefore, beyond curé. And let thése who are fortunate e. ough sv be exempt from them at present understand one great jact, viz: than an occasional use of this vitalizing tonic will as certainly prevent them as the sun will preve.t the earth from freezing where ite genial beame descend.
