The Lurkey Shoot,
On Wednesday there was a continued cracking of rifles, out at Mulloy’s ranch, just east of towu. There
were a hundred turkeys. to-be shot’
for, and many of them were picked
off by the crack marksmen of this
ity and Grass Valley. A. McNeeley
was there with his celebrated Winchester rifle, but the ‘‘clothes pin’’
fights had been removed fur more
improved ones, made by Z. P. Davis
of this city. The result was that
MeNeely got away with eighteen turkeys, one of which will be perched
von ‘the dining table ef the undersigned at I2“3s. to-day, in place of.
pork and beans. Wonder ‘any one

: Thanks. 5
‘Josiah Rogers. brought to this office yesterday a bux of large luscious
pears, apparently as sound as the
day when picked.Accompanying
the fruit was a demijohn of new
aweet cider, for all of which we return
thanks. Mr. Rogers owns one ofthe
most extensive orchards in the county, in which js raised almost every
variety of fruit which grows in the
temperate, and many varieties that
grow in the tropic zone. A visit to
his premises wiil satisfy any one of
the superiority of these foothills as a
fruit growing region.
