tor = , tl F ere: Te =. Daily Transiript, EVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE, THE Colfax stage arrived a few minutes before’ 8 o’clock, last evening» From the driver, John Majors, we learn . that a telegram was received at Colfax yesterday afternoon, stating the “water had got into Sacramento, 200 feet of the trestle work of the American river bridge had been washed away, and a heavy slide had occurred on the railroad , which. prevented ad cars from leaving Sacramento.” ob ABREST AND denen te Tuesday _ night, a man named Murphy robbed a. woman at You Bet of $300, and a warrant was issued by Justice McGoun, of Red Dog, and put into the hands of Milt. Combs, Constable, and 8. Hammond ,Special Constable to serve. They traced Murphy to this city, and Hammond attempted to take him. Murphy said he would not be taken and made a motion as if to draw a weapon, where. upon Hammond pulled his pistol. At this juncture parties standing by, who Hammond says were friends of the prisoner, rushed in and held the officer while Murphy escaped. He dro pped his carpet sack and ran down Broad street, Sheriff Gentry afterwards arrested one of the parties who interfered with the officer and locked him u jail. A large crowd collected, and hers phy succeeded in getting away. Hien WaTER.—The water in the South Yuba river has been some six or eight feet higher during the late'storm, than ever known before. We are informed that the abutment on the north side of Cooper's bridge caved away and the new bridge now lays at an angle of forty-five degrees, with the south end resting on the abutment, and the north end upon the riverbank. The water at Black’s bridge was fi eight feet higher than the 1 flood of 1862, and the timbers beneath have been carried out, and the bridge is so much weakened, that it. is tena passable for teams. HEAvyY Drirt.—The extent of the storm may be judged from the heavy , timbers which have been brought down from the mountains by the high water. Yesterday morning two heavy trunks of trees nearly thirty feet long and measuring over two feet in diameter, lay across each other a short, distance below Broad street bridge, and ‘two others spanned the creek from the shore ‘tothe body of a large tree above the Suspension bridge. Such heavy drift timber wasnever known te comedown Deer creek before. Eo COUNTERFEIT GREENBACKS.—We were yesterday shown by 8. B. Davenport, Internal Revenue Collector,a finely executed ten dollar bill, a counterfeit om the national bank notes of the bank at Rochester, N. ¥Y. It is almost a perfect imitation of a good note, and would deceive even ali expert, unless closely examined. The words “will pay ten dollars'to bearer,” are not so well executed as the genuine,‘and the stamped . number is in a darker color. Scarcrry or WaTeR—After the great storm such a heading as we have given this item, sounds strangely, and yet it is true that mining is pretty gen-erally suspended in many localities for want of water. The ditches have been broken by the floods, and the miners will be deprived of water until they can ‘be repaired. To TRAVELERs.—Mr. Black requests us tosay that his bridge is open to horsemen but cannot be crossed by teams on account of damage by the storm. It will soon be repaired. Dancine Scuoo.t.—Dickinson’s Quadrille class will meet at National Hall on Monday evening next. Prompr SETTLEMENT—I desire to return thanks to George W. Kidd & Co., agents of the London & Liverpool Fire Insurance Co., for a prompt settlement and fair adjustment of damage done by the fire of the 19th inst., at my residence’ _ on Broad street. The amount of damage done was immediately paid on the facts being made known to the Company. JACOB ROSENTHAL. “Nevada City, Dee. 27 1867. z 4 Fe WE are indebted to Wm.
