RVADA ory: a CALIFORNIA, poste —_ Py “LOCAL INTELLIGENCE, “A TeRerric Stonu.—On Thursday “fm-this section, passed over the city. Rain , and hail, accompanied by vivid flashes of lightning, poured down alternately, and in less than two hours the strests were flooded and in some stores water stood sev. ’ eral inches deep. The water from Kelsey “ravine broke through the alley back of Beiutti’s store, into Commercial street, and carried. with it sand, gravel boulders and wood, far down the street, flooding the atones and banking up.thewand on the side ‘walks. The flume carrying water un: . & he town became choked up and the.’ r made its way over the lot formerly scant by Lancaster's livery stable to _ Main street. Yesterday morning cobble stones weighing several pounds were scattered along the street from the lot to the _ bridge. ‘Above the Union Hotel the ra_ vine was choked up with drift wood that damed the water. Aconsiderable amount found its way into the' billiard room, and the dining room was flooded. The posts upon which the billiard tables rested were carried away, and the tables had to be removed. Fortunately the water found an opening and the chanael was clea before any great damage was done. Several ' places of business on Broad street, never before reached by the water were flooded. Deer Creek end all other streams were higher than ever known before. The bridge on the ‘Washington road which was built last Summer was swept away. Another on east Broad street was carried away, and the one at the foot of Nevada street so undermined that it was impassable yesterday. The storm lasted about three hours and was really terrible. -We have seen many who felt the shock from the lightning and the lond peals of thunder shook the earth to its foundatidns.— Fences in every direction were leveled to ‘the ground, and great damage was done by the violent winds that accompanied the storm. We do not believe that the storm was general throughout the State, for it _ seemed that all the power of the elements were concentrated upon this city, . THE THEATRE.—On the opening night, notwithstanding the storm, Alice Kings* bury was greeted by a crowded house. — Few actresses have so won upon the public as Miss Kingsbury during her short stay in this State, and all who have seen her pronounce her the best actress they have ever heard. She is handsome, graceful and seems to be the character she represents. In “Fanchon” the actress is forgotten and the audience sees and thinks only of the “Little Cricket.” The expressions of approval at the play were universal with the audience, and the management may rest assured of having crowded houses as long as the company remains.— Jobn McCullough is first rate and his personification of the “Barbeauds” was excellent. Kate Denth always does well — The entire company forms an excellent support of Miss Kingsbury, and it is seldom that so many talented artists visit the interior in one company. The play for this evening is the “Little Barefoct.,’ We advise all to go and see it as it is one ofthe best. Busy.—Politicians a are busy about “re? construction,” so-are the people generally, a large number being engaged every day in buying and carrying off goods from the mammoth clothing emporium of Banner Brothers. This famous establishment has always a full and complete stock of gen~ ‘tlemen’s fine elothing, furnishing goods, hats, boots, shoes, and rubber clothing of every description, which they oe pee ing of at extremely low rates. _ Mors Damace—The bridge near Rough _ and Ready was swept away on Thursday night and the Mfyeville stage was detainwas very in Penn Valley and great Aad mage wasdone to property.
