ELLER BIE DOLE EISNER IAS: MGR OSE SEM Ue Set teat opi sme RPA ___ ‘warning of the danger that threatened ‘ sultpay: pic. 20un.g1867. aan ———— '[aPrThe cars have as yet made no “ trip from Sacramento to Colfax. As the telegraph wires are down in every . Channel ‘of iowa, call the causes of deters of conjectare. The principal damage to the railroad is ssid to be the destruction of a part of the fine bridge ‘across the American river. On last _ Monday the works had been so much that the cars could not cross it, and passengers and baggage had to ‘be changed from ong train to ariother. Of'the extent of the damage at Sacramento we know nothing as yet, but it is generally believed that great damage must have resulted to everything on the low grade. Much of this is conjectaré, and thete may be a bare possithat the damage at Sacramento y slight, as the people had ample them, At one time we have a rumor that Sacramento is flooded and ‘at. . Smother that the city is safe, and that euch dispatches are recebved-at Colfax. The latest news is that the ecommuuication will be opened by Monday. We have the Marysville Appeal of Friday, the first received for a week, and from it we learn that no damage * was done to Marysville, and that the ‘ city could easily be protected by a three foot levee. From a gentleman who game up we learn that-on Thursday last the water was between three and four feet deep on D street and was falling rapidly. The flats this side of Matysville were ‘covered with water, and ee er oem t0 high ground in boats: > Curngse Riorers.—On Friday last iff Gentry arrested and brought inWm, Patrand five Chinese, charged wih rioting. The complaint ‘py D. 8. Herbert, who charges that on the 16th day of December, the parties named in the complaint, with foree and arms and with tumult, deetroyed a dam belonging to complainant, located on Indian Creek, near Buena Vista Ranch, in Grass Valley township. It appears that the Chinese have owned, and for several years worked claims on Indian Creck, and they claim that the dam destroyed belonged to them. Wm. Parr states that he was in the neighborhood at the time, being ~ gmowner of adjoining claims, but was was not # participant in any manner in . the riot. The parties were yesterday brought before Justice Palmer for ar‘and plead “not guilty.”— The trial of the Chinese was set for . Monday and that of Parr for Saturday next. 3 Tux editor of the Grass Valley Union asserts that another failure of the mail will compel him ‘to tall back on the Bible for news for his readers. We would advise the editor of the Union to adopt his suggestion, mails or no mails, as it will prove not only interesting but “new, doth to the editor and his readers. Om Bari.—On Friday, the bail of Gillis, charged with resisting Constable Hammond, was reduced to $500 by _ Judge Palmer, and the defendant having filed a bond in that sum to appear before the next Grand Jury was discharged from custody. ee By the Marysville Appeal we learn that the Sacramento gas works were all right on Wednesday afternoon, when the steamer Lark left. As the gas works were thought to be in most danger this would .indicate that the city was all right at that time, We learn that considerable damage. was‘done by the floods to the mining claims at Rocky Bar, near the town of Washington. The Yuba was higher than ever known at that point. THERE are little photograph pictures not larger than a pin’s head, containing multitudes of portraits of distinguished persons; a focalising apparatus produced them, and a microscope is necessary to render them visible. 1.
