LOCAL INTELLIGENCE, A Heavy Siipe—A heavy land slide occurred at Gopher Point, on the Yuba, during the late storm. A good part of the entire hill started, opening a chasm ‘of about forty feet, and sliding some distance toward the river. The flume,in Johnson’s old claims, now owned by Kellum & Co., of San Francisco, were destroyed, and the cut closed up. The slide covers an extent of several __aeres,and a considerable quantity of Be ¢for several days repairing breaks. heavy timber is upon the ground. . All the mining claims in the vicinity are shut off from their supply of water, with the exception of the Enterprise. Several houses are located below the slide, and the ground is cracked under the house of Mr, Said, and it isin danger. The miners are talking of turning in a heavy head of water, and running off the dirt, so as to enable them ‘to resume work. — ; ooo REPAIRING DamMaGE.—Geo. R. Crawford, agent of the telegraph company in this city, has been out on the line He got the Grass Valley line repaired on ‘Thursday. On Friday and yesterday he ‘was at work on the San Juan line for the purpose of getting communication with Downieville, and thus enable the Office in this city to open communication with Sacramento and San Francisco. aetna A Bravtiro. Sceng.—A number of persons have taken advantage of the beautiful weather of the past two days to go to the top of Sugar Loaf and look upon the vast sheet of water spread over the valley of the Sacramento and FeatLer rivers. From the coast range almost to the foothills on this side, is ene unbroken sheet of water, only relieved by the narrow strip of trees that, at this distance appear like afine thread traced upon the bright surface tomark the channel of the river. We are confident that the people who live in the overflowed region do not appreciate the beauties of high water, and will easily believe that “distance len nds enchantment to the flood.” A LIVELY TIMEs. —They are having a lively time over the atest of parties who indulged in 9” charivari at San Juan on Christmas night. The trial is to come off in Justice Court, next Monday, and about thirty witnesses will be exan ned. Goop TiImE.—F reight which left Sacwe ramento on Monday last arrived in town yesterday. This is good time considering the condition of the roads. Freight is brought from Colfax at $ of a cent per pound, YESTERDAY afternoon the Nevada telegraph office had communication with Timbuctoo and Downieville, and it was thought that the break in the wires between this place and Sacramento must be near the latter place. From Moore’s.—Tom. Canfield, driver of Gregory & English’s stage, arrived yesterday from Moore's Flat, with a saddle train. He came by way of Black’s bridge, which he thinks will be passable on next Tuesday. DriprHEertA.—Another lot of Mrs,'M. A.
