Not Good, ;
The present season has thus far béen
very unfavorable for miners. The extremely cold weather has frozen the
ditches, and the small amount of water which has fallen has been of little
benefit to the miners in the upper part
of the county. The season is far advanced, and for the first time since
1863 we have had pleasant holiday
weather. There is considerable snow
in the mountains, but unless January
should give usa large amount of rain
_ the prospect for a long mining season
“will be very slight. ,

Fred. Wholer was arrested on Tuesday night by officer Dawley, and taken
before Justice Caldwell, charged with
disturbing the peace. Wholer visited
the crib kept by Mrs. Boniface,on Broad
street, and according to his statement
got.robbed‘ of a twenty dollar piece.
He got into a row, struck one of the
inmates and was arrested, We understand Wholer fought like a Prussian.
He cleared the house, and finished up
the fight by tossing the barkeeper
through a glass door. He. confessed
that he did not know whether he struck
first or not, and as witnesses testified
that he struck the first blow, Judge
Caldwell fined him $10, which he paid
and was discharged. ee
Mining Locations. ~
The Christmas Company located on
the 24th, inst., 1,000 feet on a ledge
situated on the east side of Wood’s ravine and a quarter of a mile from the
Indian “campéodie.” This claim is
located in Nevada township.
J. Murphy, B. Murphy & Co. have
located.900 feet of ground for mining
purposés, on the banks of the Yuba
river, near Washington. The claim
commences at Condon & Welsh’s wheel
and extends down the river 900 feet
and back to the centre of the ridge between the river and Poorman’s ¢reek.
