facts connected avithithe late robbery of
‘Wells, Fargo & Company, point strongly
o% con wr the highway robin this Gty‘The lar
gest shipment of toin was made by a drover, who on the day before received $750
in payment for a lot of hogs, from Cashin
& Co. This amount he shipped by express. This circumstance taken in connection with the fact that there was more
money in the box on the day the stage
was stopped than.there had been for a
year, would indicate that the rogues had
watched the movements of the drover and:
knew that he hadsent money.
delivers two boxes in this city, one from
Virginia, which is only brought from Grass
Valley and the other from Mar¥sville—
. . The Marysville box is the only one carried
laway by the stage, the other being sent
by Cleveland & Roys as far as Grass Valley. The supposition is that the robbers
tiétes-. seeing the two. boxes delivered here
thought they were sent through and: after
they had obtained one box from the stage
they told the driver to pass out the other.
The total amount of mofey taken ‘was
$965, and a reward of $1000 was offered by
Wells, Fargo & Co. for the money and the
arrest and conviction of the robbers. This
last is one of the boldest robberies ever
committed in the county. It was done between 9 and 10 o'clock in the morning upon a road which is considerably traveled
and but a very short distance from several
houses. :
Curistmas Party—The German Glee
Club Harmonia, have determined to give
& ball at Temperance Hall, on Christmas
night. This club is composed of a number of our German citizens who are good
musicians, and their songs and chorusses
are an attractive feature at their parties.
They understand what is necessary to
make a pleasant party, and are bound to
have a large attendance on Christmas
night.
DECLARED THEIR INTENTIONS.—Wm.
John James and Richard James, natives
of England, yesterday declared their intention to become citizens of the United
States, in the County Clerk’s office.
THe Roaps.—The late stornis have rendered the traveling. very disagreeable.—
The roads leading out of town in every direction are very muddy, The Telegraph
stages. were yesterday superceeded by mud
wagons which continue to arrive -on time,
Since the railroad was completed to Colfax,
the distance By stage travel is so short that
the time is made at all seasons of the year
without any detention. —
Tae Wuicam Ming—The Whigam
mine, located upon the ridge, above Gold .
Flat, and about a mile from this city, is
one of the best mines in the éounty. Operations were commenced on it some
months since under the supervision of Mr.
Merchant. Since that time a large
amiount rock has been crushed which has
averaged sixty dollars to the ton. The
ledge has been stripped a distance of three
hundred and eighty feet. It is twenty
inches wide. A ten stamp sill ‘is soon to
be erected at this mine.

Miners WaceEs.—The Crown Point
Company, at Gold Hill (Nev.), have reduced wages to $3 50 a day. At Austin
(Nev.,) they are from $4 to 5 ‘way.
A Boeus Texnyson.—A spurious Tennyson has appeared in London. Bearing a
close resemblance to the poet-laureate, he
was able to deceive many persons, and is
said to have parted with several locks of
hair in deference to the wishes of enthusiastic women, It turned out that the man
was a nessa hs from Carlisle.
THAT was an affectionate daughter who
when purchasing some moéurnin goods,
was asked if there had» been a death in
the family, replied, “No, not exactly ; but
I expect the old lady will go under in
about a week, and I thought I would have
my mourning ready.”
