N ORDINANCE to amend an ordinance
entitled “An to create
guishment of Fires.” :
The Board of Trustees of the City of Nevada do hereby ordain as follows: Ordinance
No. 88: of said City, entitled ‘An Ordinance
to Create and Define Fire Limits for the
City of Nevada, and to.provide for the prevention and extinguishment of Fires” toher with all amendments thereof, is herey amended so as to read as follows:
Section 1. The fire limits for the City of
Nevada, shall include the whole of the following blocks, viz: 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, 16, 21, 29, 80,
81, and 35, which are hereby declared ‘to be
lire limit blocks. f
Section 2. All buildings hereafter erected,
commenced, constructed, or completed within the fire limits shall be made and constructed as follows: Every room to have ceiling
and walls Jathed and plastered, and all partitions to be also lathed and_ plastered, and
the exterior wall of each and every building
street, thence along the middle of Pine street
to the middle of Commercial street, including all buildings fronting on Pine street between Bread street and Commercial street.
Third. From the intersection of the middie of Commercial street with the middle of
Pine street, thence along the middle of Commercial street to the easterly line of Mrs.
Charlotte Jeffries’ lot, thence alohg the easterly line of said lot to the center of Oregon
Ravine, thence down the middle of Oregon
Raviee to the corner of Pine and Commercial streets; and including all within said
boundaries and limits. ;
Section 4. All buildings erected within
the special fire limits, shall be made and
constructed as follows: Every room to have
a ceiling lathed and plastered and the exterior walls of each and every building to be
constructed of brick or stone from the
ground up, the entire height of said walls
and each and every outside door, and each
and every-outside window of said buildings,
and each of them to be provided with iron
shutters, the thickness of the plategnot less
than three sixteenths of an inch, which can
be securely closed. And it shall be unlawlul, and a violation of this. ordinance, for
any person to construct, or commence to
construct, or continue to constrfict, or cause
or procure to be constructed, or to aid or advise or assist in constructing, or to maintain
or occupy upon any day, or any portion of a
day, within said fire limits, any building or
structure otherwise than asin this ordinance
provided, or contrary to the provisions of
this ordinance,
Section 5. By the outer walls of brick, or
stone, or frame buildings, are meant the
front, rear and side walls.
Section 6. The outer walls of all buildings
of either brick or stone, or of both,,to be
used as stores; warehouses, hotels.or shops,
shall be at least sixteen inches in thickness,
in the basement or foundation story and for
the first story, and at least twelve inches in
thickness for the second story. The outer
walls of all buildings to be used as dwelling
houses, sheds, stables or other outhouses
hereafter to be erected shall for a two story
building or less, be at least twelve inches in
thickness for the first story, and at least
eight inches in thickness for the second story.
All partition walls shall extend from the
foundation through the roof, the same as

walls shall be at least eight inches in thickness. The roof shall be composed of, or covered with, such material as will afford reasonable protectin against, fire.
Section 7. No brick or stone wall shall be
supported upon stringers of wood; and it
shall be unlawful for any person to raise,
buildupon, or alter any buil@ing of brick
and stone or both, unless the same‘is so completed, altered or constructed, as to comply
with-the provisions of this ordinance.
Section 8. It shall be unlawful for any
person to smoke hams, bacon, sausages, or
any meats whatever in houses, other than
brick or stone houses, with walls at least
twelve inches in thickness; it shall also be
unlawful to construct, use or maintain any
chimney or flue attached to, or connected
with any structure within the fire limits, unless the same shall be constructed of stone,
brick or terra-cotta, from the ground up,
said chimney or fiue to extend at least three
feet above the roof or outer wall of said
building.
Section 9, Any person who shall violate
any-of the/provisions of this ordinance, shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a
fine of not less than twenty-five dollars, and
not exceeding one hundred dollars, or bj
imprisonment ‘in the city prison not exceeding ten days, for each offense, at the discretion of the Justice-of the Peace by whom the
punishment is assessed.
Section 10. It shall be the duty of the
Marshall-and Chief Engineer -to have this
oydinance strictly enforced.
