"@he Grand Jury Report. —
The Grand Jury empanneled on Wedday and was discharged. They examined four cases, found two true bills
and ignored two. D. J. Hickey was indicted for arson in burning the Round
fi
House of the Central Pacific Railroad, .
at Truckee, and Pat. Dooling for the
murder of McNichols at You Bet. The
bill against the Chinaman charged with
rebbing Vance’s shoe shop was ignored.
The committee on public buildings reported everything in. good condition.
This committee recommended that. an
ironarch be placed over the gate in
front of the Court House yard, and a
gas lamp suspended, to furnish light te
the officers who take prisoners from or
put them in the stages at night. They
also reconimend @ matting for the main
hall of the Court House, to deaden the
noise of footsteps, in order that the
county officers may not be disturbed.
The records are reported neatly and
systematically kept, the jail secure, the
prisoners well fed, andthe establishment well regulated.
The hospital committee reported that
they found the patients perfectly satisfied with their treatment. The provisions are reported of excellent quality,
and that everything about the premagement The mafiagement of the
County Hospital certainly merits the
commendation of the jury, and we
doubt if a more admirably managed
_institution of the kind can be found in
the State. Since the hospital has been .
in charge of Dr. Hunt he has taken
great pride in conducting the institu“tion, and has from time to time made
additions of furniture and improvements
while patients: have always been supplied with the most wholesome. foodDr. Hunt is ‘the right man in the right
place. .
The School Boy Ledge.
For more than a year and a half the
boys attending the Oakland school, on
Gold Flat, have been at noon and other’
times prospecting in the vicinity of the
school house for quartz. They sunk a

sons Visited the vicinity, and all concluded that some terrible murder had
‘been committed. Numerous theories as
to the motives which prompted the deed
were indulged in. Lokelitums struck
the trail and followed it with eagerness,
suggesting that the matter might be
explained in this wise: That Jonathan
Clark had some fine fat hogs, and that
there were men whuse love of honesty
might be overcome by their appetite for
fresh pork. This idea was dispelled by .
the fact that there were no pig tracks,
and besides the impress left upon the
soil was too large tobe made by a hog.
In the afternoon a man came to the
spot to look for his-hat,and the mystery
was soon explained when his statement
was made. In the morning, early, he
drove Sutton’s milk wagon in as usual,

as deep as fifteen feet. This week they
-started in a new. place, and on going
down a few feet strack the ledge. John
A, Johnson, aged 12,and Heary L. Bouviere, aged 11 years, are eatitled to the .
discovery, being in the shaft, and they
with seven others own the ledge, having located 1,000 feet. The ledge
shows as fine a prospect as we have
ever seen in surface rock. Upon the
surface of a specimen weighing about a
pound, shown us by the boys, we saw a
dozen or more colors. The ledge is
about eighteen inches wide and the
rock uniformly rich. These boys are
setting our men # good example, and
we are pleased to note their success in
mining. They have attended school
regularly, and done their prospecting
on Saturdays, and at other times when
they could get time. If some of the
men whoare about the county would,
when timesare dull, devote a part of
their time to looking up mines, they
miglit aid materially in developing the
resources of the county. We hope the
School Boy Ledge may make every one

shown an energy that merits success.

The Living Machine.
Injure the main spring of a watch and every
portion of the works becomes disordered.
The human stomach is to the human system
what that elastic piece of metalis to a chronometer. It influences the action of the other
organs, and controls, to a certain extent, the

be cafried further : for as the weaknesses or
other impezfections of the main spring is in.

is the weakness or other disorder of ‘se stom.
