There is a law (Political Code, Section 8,084; as amended last winter)
which reads thus:
“No person shall inter. cremate, of
otherwise dispose of any buman body,
in any city, county, or city and county, without having first obtained a
permit therefor. In incorpora‘ed cities,
or counties, or cities and counties, the
permit must be obtained from the person authorized to grant the same by
any lw, ordinance, or resolution pulssed for thut purpose. But in the absence of such haw, ordinance, or resiIntian, the permit must be obtained
frum either the Coroner, or Health
Officer, Board of Health, or if the
Coroner be absent, then from the
Health Officer or Bourd of Health;
and if there be no Board of Health o:

A Somnambulist Receives a Very
= Dangereus Fah.
The Santa Cruz Surf of Monday gives
the following account of a singular and
almost fatal accident to a brother of
Mrs. David Be den; formerly of this
eity:
“‘&s. Theodore .Canfield was on his
way hoine down Walnut avenue about
lo’clock this morning ne discovered
the body of a man in his uaderclothe:
ving in front of the Metropolitan
Hotel. Investigation proved that the
man was Owen L. Farrell, a boirdes
inthe Metropolitan Hotel, and that
he had arisen in bis sleep and opening
his window on the second floor walkeu
out on the porch until he came to the
end, when he fell to the bitumen
sidewalk inthe street, a distance of
about twelve or fifteen feet. Farreli
was a horrible sight, but is not Sup
pored to be dangerously wounded
He was carefully taken into a room
and put to bed. Dr. B. Knight found
that the bones in Farrell’s right arm
were’ broken and shattered sear (he
wrist, and that his back had—been
hurt, but the doctor did not think hir

The Native Paughters.
The annual report of the Secretary
of the Grand Parlor, now in seesiun at
San Franciaco, shows that Seven Par+
lors of Native Danghters have been
organized during the past:ear. The
total’ receipts in the Grand Parlor tressury have been $2,509 and disbursements $1,350.25, leaving a balance on
fiand of $1,149.75. At the last session
the total membershipin the order was
1,711 and cath on hand in subordinate
parlors $3,248.65. The receipts were
$7,600.62 and disbursements $5,685 68.
The membership at the present time
is considerably over 2,009, and the
financial concition quite healthy.
