Mowery, the great-ridet; Weston the
champion pedestrian, and Winship the
unparalleled lifter, have all been beaten by a resident of this county, and the
allude, resides in the town of Trackee.
“On the 10th day of December he accom
plished a feat unequalled in the annals .
of pleasure or business, and we'll pit

was asfollows : Forty-eight jurors were
summoned, eight arrests made, 111
miles traveled, eight persons fed and
thirty four witnesses subpoened by one
man. -The magnitude of this feat
will only be enhanced by the fact’ that
December 10th is very near the shortest
day of the year. We know that these
things were actually done, because we
find it a part of the records duly certified to the Board of Supervisors. Had
it nat been for this fact. we should not
have believed it possible for one man to
have accomplished all these feats.
These are the items of service actually
charged up against the county, and
certified to by a Truckee officer inone
day.

Reduction of Water Rates.
The Water Company at San Juan
has reduced the price of water from
16} cents per inch to 12} ; and as a consequence some mining claims which
have been unworked are now being

has been effectually squelched, we

but this bill robbing the~people-of $5,000,was too much for him. As it barely
passed the Senate before on account of

-of—the Superintendent of: the Insane
Asylum shows-that 482 patients were
admitted during the year ending Oct. .
1st, 1869, and that 225 were discharged
recovered, 16 impreved, 159 died, and
patients, of whom 670 were males, and244 females. During the year 12 were
sent from Nevada county. Five counties have sent a larger number. There
are 179 natives of the United States—
New York standing first—283 foreigners, and 20 unknown. a
