CALMED Gs. ov ecss0 ‘SATURDAY. FEB. 17. f Moore's Flat Items. _ Moore's Fiat, Feb. 14th. Eprror Transcrrpr—We are now enjoying the benefit ofa genuine snow storm, and every prospect of the ditches being blocked up. The stage left Graniteville last night at eight o’clock and arrived here at Two men accompanying the driver down and report the snow as drifting badly and the wind blowing a gale. Mr. Tyler of Graniteville, who has the unenviable job of carrying the . ' mail from here to that place, arrived here at twelve o'clock last night, bringing his snow shoes with him. This town has baen unusually lively the past week, Poker, whisky and fighting has been ares indulged in, ~~ Mr. Myrick ‘and Miss McKeon have their school started nicely, and the roll shows an-attendance of ninety-eight scholars, which will be increased to about one hundred and five this week. The Blue Bank laid off several men this week, but as soon as they get their tunnel opened and more rooni théy will increase their force. The gravel is looking fine and paying well. Brigham is putting in his best licks and driving things ahead, The Rainbow mining company working opposite our town in Sierra county are using their water power sinking a winze, and consequently are not running their mill. They have the finest mill in the State, and one of the best ledges in California. They intend to sink abont one hundred feet deeper on the-ledge he: fore they start up the mill, The gravel mines here have all suspended for the «winter and outside of the Blue Bank Co., no work will be done until Spring. . Areport reaches us to-day that paying gravel in their new works, and that they are getting along finely with the new tunnel; Spellingberg and. Jensen have started in to open up their river claim, and have splendid prospects ahead, We don’t vaiiek to see a stage on wheels or a wagon comie into town for two months. It is snowing like fury now, and the telephone inf informs . _ us that at Graniteville it ie piling up fast. .F. M Ford and WcDonald Mine. The Union says: The striking of an under ledge in the Ford & ‘McDonald may prove to be a discovery of some consequence, The ledge in that mine in which a number of rich strikes have been made is found at the depth of 120 feet from the surface and lays quite flat, and in places disturbed. It has been a theory with Arthur McDonald, one of the owners, that there was another ledge below this, and some time ago he concluded to.sink below: thepresent workings to determine this. _ He therefore started a prospect shaft in the drift 150 feet distant from the working shaft, expecting to strike the under ledge in ten or fifteen feet. He was disappointed in this however, but having confidence in hs theory he kept at work until ho sank to a depth of 45 feet, when he struck a strong vein, two. feet. thick, which shows well in sulphurets and prospects ingold. ~< The “Passion Play.” Preparations for thé presentation of the Passion Play in New York are now completed'and the theatre where it is to be presented is finished in every. part. The place ia lighted throughout by candelabra of seven candles each, made after the ancient Jew pattern. Full dress rehersalswill be given Saturday evening, and invitations will be issued to-day to a@ large number of well-known men, asking their presence, The pro-. pepsia, Indigestion, Malaria, gramme has been printed (about the VWanknede, and felieve all size of a sheet of note paper) and is Lung and Kidney diseases, printed with extreme simplicity; the ; words, ‘‘The Passion,” are at the me head of it, and the names of the seven scenes. follow, ALBERT.
