Going Home .
Franklin Bates, of this city, proposes to réturn to his old” home in
the East. Mr. Bates is anold sea
Captain, and is one of the pioneers
of Nevada county: During a residence of many“years he has been a
firm friend of the Temperance: ‘cause, .
“being connected with the Temperance Societies in this city from their
first organization to the present
time. He proposes now to return
home and spend the remainder of
life in the place of his birth. His
old friends wish him a safe j journey.
Rebber Shot at.
Yesterday morning about 1 o’clock
Mr. Shuster, the watchman at the
Nevada Flouring Mills, heard some
one on the outside of the building
trying the doors. The man went.to
the sliding door and pressing it back
unfastened the bolt and slipped the
door back. After he had opened
the door a considerble distance,
Shuster fired his revolver. The
man ran off crying ‘‘oh! oh! oh!’’ as
if in pain, and it is supposed the
shot took effect. An attempt was
made to steal flour from the mill
some months ago but it was prevent.
ed by the watchman on duty.
The Grass Valley Case.
Yesterday the case. of the Chinaman accused of burglary, in entering
the tailor shop of Mr. Woods, on
tity of goods came up for trial. The
case was prosecuted by District Attorney J. I. Caldwell, and defended
by Judge Searls. The defendant
showed the officer where the goods.
were concealed, the testimony showing that the confessions were extorted by violence. The case was submitted without argument and the jury
brought in a verdict of guilty.
Naturalized Citizens.
County Clerk, J.J. Rogers has just .
comp'eted indexing the names of all
persons naturalized in the County
and District Courts of this county.
The records .run back to 1856, all
books and reeerds prior to that time
being destroyed by the fire which
swept the town that year. The total
number of persons naturalized from
1856 to date is 2,212—nearly half the
voting population of the county.
; Sad News.
Judge Searls, of this vity, yesterday received a dispatch announcing
the death of the father of Judge A.
C. Niles at his home in New York.
The telegram was sent to the wife of
Judge Searls who is a sister of Judge
Niles.

How inconsistent is human nature. Men

aginst ruffians in well-polished cities, where
the precaution is unnecessary, often neglect
to fortify their systems against disease in

diminishes. Each* succeeding season demonstrates more clearly the inestimable
value of the Bitters, both as an antidote
for the causes of disease, and a specific for
its consequences. The miasma which generates periodic disorders, rheumatism, liver
complaint, irregularity of the bowels and
other physical disturbances, produce no
effect whatever’ upon systems toned strengthened and regulated by this powerfull vegetable medicine, and dyspepsia, nervous
debillity, constipation, intermittent and
remittant fevers, billousness, and in fact
nearly all the maladies which the Bitters,
if taken in time, would prevent, are cured
by the persevering use of the great remedy.
The genuine Bitters sold in bottles only,
and never by the barrel, keg or gallon, as is
represented by some unprincipled dealers.
