Going Home . Franklin Bates, of this city, proposes to réturn to his old” home in the East. He proposes now to return home and spend the remainder of life in the place of his birth. His old friends wish him a safe j journey. Rebber Shot at. Yesterday morning about 1 o’clock Mr. Shuster, the watchman at the Nevada Flouring Mills, heard some one on the outside of the building trying the doors. The man went.to the sliding door and pressing it back unfastened the bolt and slipped the door back. After he had opened the door a considerble distance, Shuster fired his revolver. The man ran off crying ‘‘oh! oh! oh!’’ as if in pain, and it is supposed the shot took effect. An attempt was made to steal flour from the mill some months ago but it was prevent. ed by the watchman on duty. The Grass Valley Case. Yesterday the case. of the Chinaman accused of burglary, in entering the tailor shop of Mr. Woods, on tity of goods came up for trial. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney J. I. Caldwell, and defended by Judge Searls. The defendant showed the officer where the goods. were concealed, the testimony showing that the confessions were extorted by violence. The case was submitted without argument and the jury brought in a verdict of guilty. Naturalized Citizens. County Clerk, J.J. Rogers has just . comp'eted indexing the names of all persons naturalized in the County and District Courts of this county. The records .run back to 1856, all books and reeerds prior to that time being destroyed by the fire which swept the town that year. The total number of persons naturalized from 1856 to date is 2,212—nearly half the voting population of the county. ; Sad News. Judge Searls, of this vity, yesterday received a dispatch announcing the death of the father of Judge A. C. Niles at his home in New York.
