Martin while in an intoxicated condition created so much of a disturbance on the streets that he was tak-—
en in tow by the police. C. C. Gillespie, his friend, objected so strenuously to his being locked up that
Marshal Baldridge and officers Stevens and Rogers after somewhat of a
struggle maintained the dignity of
the law by puttingthem both in the
City Prison. Yesterday morning
they were introduced to the august’
presence of Justice Rabinson before
whom they freely acknowledged the
error of their ways by pleading guilty. His honor gave them the alternative of either payinga ten dollar
fine apiece or going to jail. for five

one cent of which goes to the ‘‘foreign corporations” that are such a
bugbear to the anti-mining men.

Death of a Fermer Resident,
Hy Albert Mau, of the firm of Albert Mau & Co., wholesale grocers
on Front street, San Francisco, died
in-that city Wednesday morning at
the age of 51 years. Mr. Mau was
@ nativeyof Prussia and came to this
éoast in 1850, settling in Nevada
City, For several years he was engaged in business on Broad street,
and is well remembered by most of
the pioneers of this. section. In
1860 he went to l’evada and became a prominent merchant at Virginia City, aud at Austin until 1868,
when he went to San Francisco. He
leavesa wife and seven children.
