It was one of the largest parties we have ever attended in the city. “The fire boys were out in their red shirts and uniforms, and now and then we noticed a soldier boy, The ladies were out, _in largenumbers. There was a dele~ gation of about a dozen from Grass Valley, the press being represented by Hayden of the. Republican, who ap' peared as one of ‘‘der boys that runs wid der machine.” There were.also _visitors from Eureka, Bloomfield and other points in the county. Nothing occurred to mar the pleasure of the guests, and the floor managers and officers of the Department did their best to make every one at home. The affair was not only a success in the management, but also financially, The Department will: clear from $60 to $70 over expenses. Mortgage Taxes. : The County Collector has some $4,000 of taxes, which amount is the aggregate paid upon mortgages for 1870, and which was witheld from the Treasury by order of the Board of Supervisors, pending the suit in the Supreme Court for testing the constitutionality of the law exempting mortgages from taxation. This amouft will now be paid into the Treasury and will go toward the liquidation of the county debt. The tax payers: lose all this tax for 1871, because no assessment was made in that year. > : The Buckeye Mine. The Buckeye mine is located in Willow Valley, and is owned by Tully, Kitts & Co. Some time since machinery was put upon the mine and an incline commenced. A day or two ago the ledge was struck, and the prospect is very encouraging. The ledge is five feet wide, and.the _ Tock is filled with rich looking sulphurets. From Thursday noon when the ledge was struck, up to yesterday morning six tons of this rock was taken out. ‘ ail. Eastern Mail. A small quantity of Eastern mail that ought to have reached Nevada on Thursday at noon, got here from somewhere on Thursday night at 10 o'clock. As usual the Eastern mail that ought to have reached here at noon yesterday, failed to connect. ' As the express gets through, the question is what becomes of the mail? Who is responsible for ‘‘scatter’n abroad man?’’ _ The Parade. The Nevada Light Guard tarned . out on Thursday with fifty-five men, rank and file, and seven musicians, making in-all sixty-two men. The company paraded on the sehool grounds and in town, and fired salates. There will be a meeting of the company this evening at the armory for drill. <-> Surprise Party. On Thursday night a large party of friends invaded the residence of M. Cannon, Esq., on Aristocracy Hill, taking the ipmates by surprise. The rooms were soon crowded and and Mr. Cannon and lady found themselyes surrounded by friends. ~The invaders made themselves at home, a splendid lunch was spread by the guests, and everything passed Lecture Monday Evening. FANCY GOODS IMPORTED —AT— ‘aii Four Millions of Invalids. less than four millions of invalids-in the United States. "Of this number probably more than oe have neglected the ordinary-precautions necessary for the preseryation of health, and are suffering the . punishment due to their carelessness. If the multitudes-who“are now afflicted with biliousness, indigestion, rheumatism; intermittent fever, irregularities of the bowels, general debility, nervous disorders, &¢., had, at the very first symptoms of indisposition, invigorated, regulated and purified their systems with Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, two-thirds of them would at this mo. ment be performing the active duties of ‘life, unannoyed by anyailment of the body —~This assertion is made advisedly. It is founded on experience, and is borne out by the testiniony of -a-countiess~host of wit: nesses, whose attestations cover almost every variety of disease, and extend over a period of about twenty years. Of every thousund persons who take the “Bitters, as a preventive of the complaints above @numerated, seven-eighths escape them entirély; and of eyery thousand. who-are actually attacked, and use the great Vegetable Tonic as a remedy, three-fourths — are radically cured. These are not hap-hazard assertions but statistical facts. _ They are based upon the results of inquiries made by more than fifty thousand persons, in various parts of the country, and upon the letters of promi, nent citizens of every State, it might glmost be said of every county inthe Union. .
