Items In Brief. :
Tt is said Sam Seabough, who has
“written for the Sacramento Union so
long, has gone to San Francisco, and
that he has been. offered a position
on the’Chronicle, but that he refased.
It is believed he will go ou the Bualjetin or Call: In whatever place -he
_rplants himself bis infiuence will be
felt,. We believeno more versatile

““twe or three years 6m ofe subject,
‘and vary. the ideas sufficient to
make each article readable and in‘structive, is something remarkable,
-and that is what Seabongh has done.
Anthony and Morrill furnished the
venom to fight the monopolies, His
abilities will no doubt soon secure
for hima position as agreeable as
‘the one he lately filled.
It was rumored that Geo. C,
‘Gorham had been left a fortune by a
deceased aunt, but the Marysville
Appeal thus -snuffs é6ut the story:
‘An item'is going the rounds of the
press that George -C.Gorham has
been made a millionaire. by the
death of an aunt in New York. We
learn from ,reliable authority that
there are three facts which discourayes this good news, First—that
Gorham has no aunt worth $2,000,000; second—he has no aunt living
in New York; third—he has lost no :
aunt.

We learn from H. CO. Perkins, Superintendent of the North Bloomfield Mining Company, that everything is working well: at the mine.
They employ only forty-five or fifty
men now. The long tunnel through
‘which all the washed gravel passes is
a perfect success’ ‘There isa flume
~on the first eighteen hundred feet of
it and the balance of the way (over
six thousand feet) the water and
gravel ruus on the bottom of the tunnel. It was thought by most miners
that without fluming the whole dis‘tance the tunnel. would choke up
and prove @ taiture: ~“Phe-resuit,. ship, and-is—going to—develop this.
however, is just the contrary, ‘The
__stailings ‘have become clogged bat
once or.twice, and then.it occurred
where the flume is, and nol in the
bottom of the tunnel. There is
three thousand inches of water used
“dn piping in the mine at present, all
‘of which passes through the tuneel.
‘So far waste or top dirt has been
washed, and the best pay dirt has
not been reached yet. ~ The company are also working two other claims
ju which about «twelve hundred}
“ dnches of water is used, The water
used is supplied by ditches owned
by the ompany. They have to
‘draw from the reservoirs already.
It is expected they will be filled
‘again before Spring. There ig be‘tween four and five feet of snow at
‘the head of the ditches now, where
‘at thesame time there was two or
othree times the quantity last year.
It is thought, however, the average
amount of work which will .be done
