Bie Daily Twanscript NEVADA O%TY, CALs em Friday, Feb. 25, 1876. _-bresk in that direction. Hoodiums and thé Kathroad. We have had occasion severbl fimes to give Warning to the young hoodtums that are growmg ap, awd give them some goo@ advice, but it is evident the seed we have endeav-. ored to sow has not sprung up and brought forth any good fruit that we ‘know of. Nevertheless, this shall ‘not deter us from making apotber 2 It is: evident to our mind that . ‘parents are . almost wholly responsible*for this AUC Ree i _ acte-andmaking them believe they . “Hoodlum element. If they would take the proper-course with their boys, instead of countenancing their are ‘powerful’ smart children, there _ would-be. less cause for consplaint, \and the child would be better for it. Not long ago a man was hung in Ohio, and on the gallows he state) that his parents were; as much to blame for his crimes as he was . himself; for, said he, ‘when young. I did wrong, and owr neighbors would ‘make complaints,.but the only rep-. rimanding that was ever done was to « the informers. They were told that I was the best boy in the world, and iy parenis honestly thought so, as thousands of other parents do of their children, thereby ruining them. Instead, if my. parents had given me severe floggings and insisted that I should do right, and’not attempted to excuse my conduct, I would not huve-become hardened to wrong de. ing, aud would have led a better tife.”’ ~~ehild is perfection, and if be-fails to ehey you, or does» wrong, punish him in your own way and make him do right, so that when he grows up he will be am ornament and not a disgrace to society, Wedo not be“lieve the boys of this county are any. worse than those ef other counties, but we do know that one of the contenctora of our railroad thinks so, for, —gaid ho; “‘I have been building rail-. ° ‘roads for many years, and the first time I was insulted by a boy, was in Nevada county.” What a shame! Comment .on that is unnecessary. ' Our railroad is about completed, and if the same daring spirit and—carelesaneés continues to prevail_ among}. out boys as las been sbewn since the railroad reached the vicinity of this plaee and ‘Grass Valley, we may expect te hear of several being killed. ~Purents should insist that when they allow their boys to go out to see the railrodd, they must keep off of the track and-thecars. Our City Trustees have wisely paséed am ordinance whieh we hope will be enforced: Section second reads as follows: ~ “Tt shall be dalawful, and is hereby dédlared to be a nuisance, for any minor child under the age of eighteen _yeara, to play or loiter. about any “\ pailroad depot or the ‘cars of any railroad in this city, or to ride upon ~“any railroad ¢ar, engine, truck or other vehicle, without the consent of the owners or agents thereof, The Marshal or Policeman are authorized and empowered, andit is made their duty to admonish all minors Vielating the provisions of the ordinance, and to conduct such minor —to bis-home, or in-their-discretion to arrest such minors, Any one guilty of violating the ordinance, shall _ ‘wpon conviction be fined in a sum not exceeding oae hundred dollars, or be imprisoned not exceeding forty days, at the discretion of the court,"’ Tun Bee saya: If Piper, instead of ‘introducing a bill making the new silver dollar yet to be coined a legal tender for twenty. dollars, and half dollars a legal tender for any sum, be would.have served his constituents and the public much better! Why abould a dollar of silver’ be issued that is not by reason of weight and fineness equal in value to a gold dollar, and being so equal; why should it not be a legal tender for'$100 or $10,000? Then no one would be cheated! Then there would be no brokers shaving off the poor man's earniags. Butit would seem as if our entire currency system, like our entire land system; were invented for the sole purpose of injuring the ~ many for the benefit of the few. whispered & sensitive wife to -her’ Parents remember this “warn-}— ing voice, and do not believe your Local Breévitiés, Nat. Tully, book keeper at the Bank of Nevada County, has been seriously il] doring the. past week. Yesterday he was a little better, A gentleman from Virginia City itforms us that times at that plac: are very lively. He says the Ophir Company's new buildings and other worlas occupy ten aeres of ground. They have three mills running on the ore which is now being taken ont, and their clean up from tbis pime will be from $70,000 to $80,000 per week, and perbaps more.. It is thought they will soon be able-to de clare a dividend, man for “sample of their cigars. The Chinaman came into town for assistauce, and a namber of persons went out to that place. The elaims. where the cave occurred ate at Sailor Flat, aboat one mile from the Blue Tent House, and about six miles from this city. They ute owned by Campbell, Peck, Chadwick and Storey. It seems the owners of the claims had been expecting @ portion of the bank would cave, and gave the warning to the Chinamen who were there employed. At about 10 o'clock yesterday morning the cave occurred, whilé four Chinamen were at work, and they all saw it coming, and tried to get out of the way, ‘Two of them were—baried ‘ alive_bythe cave, and, another was caught, but im such a manner as to be enabled to get out without assistance. He was, however, considerably broised, and the other one escaped without a scrateh. A large fores of men went to werk to get out the two Chivamen who were covered Up, .
