“thriving and enterprising city. The community principally derives it supper from the
mining industry, hydraulic and quartz being the branches carried Onin the immediate} {magn
‘wainity, while drifting is also pursued tosome
extent a few miles distant. The deepest
mine is the Providence, now working at
depth of over 1,100 feet, and there finding
very heavy and rich deposits. In the town‘ghip nearly 200 stamps are busily engaged .

lucrative trade with the numerous mining

The Board of Trustees of the City of Nevada do hereby ordain as follows: Ordinance
No. 88, of said City, entitled ‘‘An Ordinance
to Create and Define Fire Limits for the
City of Nevada, and to provide for the prevention and extinguishment of. Fires” toether with all amendments thereof, is herefy amended so as to read as follows:
Section 1. The fire limits for the: City of
Nevada, shall include the whole of the following blocks, viz: 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, 16, 21, 29, 30,
$1, and 35, which are hereby declared to be
fire limit blocks.
Section 2. All buildings hereafter erected,
commenced, constructed, or completed within the fire limits shall be made and constructed as follows: Every room to have ceiling
and walls lathed and plastered, and all partitions to be also lathed and plastered, and
the exterior wall of each and every building
to be constructed of studs. with weather;
boards or rustic on the outside, or of brick or
stone.
Section 8, The special fire limits ofthe
City of Nevada, are bounded and ‘described
as follows: First, Commencing at the inter“tion of the middle of York street with the

of either brick or stone, orof both,\ to be
used as stores, warehouses, hotels or
shall be at least sixteen inches in thickness,
in the basement or foundation story an for
the first story, and at least twelve inchds in
thickness for the second story. The outer
walls of all buildings to be used as dwellin
houses, sheds, stables or other outhouses
hereafter to be erectedshall for a two stor
building or less, be at least twelve inches i
thickness for the first story, and at least’
eight inches in thickness for the second story,
All partition walls shall extend from the
fansite through the roof, the same as
side walls or party walls, and such partition
walls shall be at least eight inches in thickness, The.roof shall be composed of, or covered with, such material as will afford reasonable protection against fire.
Section 7. No brick or stone wall shall be
supported upon stringers of wood; arid it
shall be unlawful for any person to raise,
build upon, or alter any building of brick
and stone or both, unless the same is so cémpleted, altered or constructed, as to comply
with the provisions of this ordinance,
Section 8. It shall be unlawful for any
person to smoke hams, bacon, sausages, or
any meats whatever in houses, other than
brick or stone houses,.with.walls at least
twelve inches.in thickness; it shall also be
unlawful to construct, use or maintain any
chimney or flue attached to, or connected
with any structure within the fire limits,-1wnless the same shall be constructed of stone,
brick or terra-cotta, from the ground up,
said chimney or flue to extend at least three
feet above-the roof or outvr wall ‘of said
building.
Section 9. Any person who shall violate
ny of the provisions of this ordinance, shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a
fine of not less than twenty-five dollars; and
not exceeding one hundred. dollars, or by
imprisonment in the city prison not exceed‘ing ten days, for each offense, at the diseretion of the Justice of the Peace by whom the
punishment is assessed.

Marshall and Chief Engineer to have this

An ordinance providing for the cons
struction ofa Sidewalk and Railing on the northwest side of Sacramento Street,
HE Board of Trustees of the City of Nevada do ordain as follows :
Section 1, [tishereby declared necessary
forthe public convenience that a sidewalk
shall be establishea and built with the grade
of the atreet, eight feet wide,*and a railing
shall be built as described in Section 4, of
this ordivance.
Section 2. The sidewalk and railing shall be
built on-thenorth-west side of Sacramento
street from the corner of Broad and Sacramento streets, to the upper corner of H, C.
Mills’ lot,
Section 8. Such sidewalk shall consist of
four stringers, 4x4 inches, with planks 2x6
inches wide to be nailed with 20-penny nails,
and 2 nails 6n each end of the plank, and one
nail on each centre stringer.
Section 4. A railing shall be built on the
wholelength of said sidewalk as follows: 2)
feet high, the upright posts t» be 4x#*inches;
the top railing to be 3x4 inches atid planed;
one board 1x6 between top railing and walk
at a proper distance,
