REPEAL OF THE Cox’ PRACT ‘Act. —The
fullowing petition is being circulated in this,
county, which spesks for itself: +
"'fo-the Hanorables Mesers;Kutzand Roberts, Representatives-of Nevada County
in the State Senate, and the \Honorables
Messrs. Sears, Martin, Rule and Smith, .
Representatives a Berere County Ta the
Annem) ee
Your meworiatiate; citizens of Nevada
county, respeetfully represent, that they hove
been informed that 4 bill is now. before the
I jigned to repeal the Act of.
12863, generally known as“ “The Specific Con: .
tract Act.”
Your. memorialists represent that the
: “working Of the Act of 1863 tas been highty
satisfactor; to the citizens of this county,
and their general business bas been transacted in accordance with its provisions.—
‘That. the repeal will be agatnst their wishes,
and_in the epinien—of_your—rnenrorialiste,
will introduce confusiun and distrust into
all. branches of business; that credit will
be greatly impaired and évery industrial interest of the county injurivusly affected
thereby.
Your. memorijilists do further reapectfully
submit, that-ia their opinion, the legal questions connected with the Act of 1863, can
be better determined by the Supreme Court
ot thie State than by any other braneh of
the State Gevernment, And believing that
the currency nowemployed in ths State is
approved by the common consent of her
eitizens, they regard all aiateaae interfers
epee with the usages of trade. as impolitic
and mischievous, and most earnestly deprecate all attempts by Legislative enactment
to alter the carrency now in general use.— ‘
They therefore respectfully. request tivat in
‘our respective ranches of the Legisaitive .
ody, you take such action as will prevent .
the repeal of said Act” of: T863;>and-your +
‘meworialists will ever pray.
We believe the petition will be signed by
‘every ‘business man in, Nevada county. and
will present an array of names.never before
seen on a petition.
