FEBRUARY 5,
LOCAL MATTERS.
_ QUARTZ MINING.—The late storm_has
semewhat impeded the operations of prospectors. The ground is in niany places so
wet that no work can be done. A few more
pleasant days will give the quartz miners a
' show. The'interest in this branch of mining has not abated one whit, and when operations afe resumed, new discoveries and developments will be made. ;
er
RETURNED.—Felix Gillett, an oldNevadan, has‘returned to this city again, after—a
year’s visit to France. During his stay in
his native country, he wrote some very. interesting letters to the Sacramento Union.
He showed that he was-atrue—friend of the
Government, and stood up manfully for it in
. Opposition to the poptilar feeling of France.
He contemplates going into business. again
--in this city, where he has a host~of frierfs.
