NewspPaPer Cuance.—In yesterday's
Grass Valley Union, Sel. A, Shane announces his retirement from that paper. He has
sold out toW. H. Miller, who is _now sole
_ proprietor of the establishment. We underatand that Miller will have charge of the
editorial and local will be in the hands of
Ed. Knight. These gentlemen will make
the Union & popular journal.

issued to Thomas Freeman to collect tolls

Deer Creek, The remainder of the session,
yesterday, was occupied in examining and
Dancixe Scuoot.—Messrs. Sullivan &
Becket have their. dancing school, recently
started at Temperance Hall, in successful
operation, The -schovl for gentlemen is
held on Monday and Thursday of each week
at 7 o’clock,P. M. The ladies’ class will
meet on the same days at 3 o'clock in the
afternoon. These gentlemen will teach all
the latest. quadrilles and fancy dances.—
They have a method by which all who de-_
sire can learn to waltz well. Now-is the
time to enter the school as the term is just
commencing.
Free Lecrure.—Mrs. C.-M. Stow,
trance speaking medium and imprevisatrice,
will lecture to the people of this city, in the
Baptist Church to night. The ludy has recently been lecturing in Sacramanto and
has every where had large audiences. She
professes to speak by inspiration of spirits,
and is said to be one of the most eloquent
of the believers in the State. The lecture
will commence at 7 o’clock thia evening.
‘LiveLy.—The meeting of the Board of
Supervisors has, notwithstanding the bad
weather, brought.a large number of persons
to town. They come mostly upon road
business. As this is the time uf settlement
for overseers, and the appointment of new
officers,the Buard will no doubt be kept busy
for a number of days.
ACCIDENT —George M. Hughes while at
work upon a building near the Catholic
Church yesterday, fell from a ladder about
fifteen feet to the gronnd, sustaining severe
injury. He was taken up insensible but
twas soon restored to consciousness by Dr.
Meek, who wis. passing at the time, No
bones were broken;and we learn that the
‘injuries ‘tre not of a serous nature.

‘roads which were improving rapidily have

Lte Broxen.—We learn from J.8.Tam
‘that a man named Bush had his leg broken
while engaged iu mining near Red Dog, on
Sunday last. He was putting blocks into a
flume, when the bank caved upon him,
breaking his leg in two places. He was
carried to town, and the broken limb was
set by Dr. Martin.
Ratn.—Since last Sunday morning the
guage at the office of the South Yuba Canal
Company, shows that 24 inches of rain have
fallen. _It-was measured at 9 o'clock, yes‘day morning. —

the new mining district, a few days since,
reports the snow at Summit City six feet
