A Pecaltar Explosion.
Monday forenoon. the large pipe
that conveys water from the Snow
Mountain ditch to the Merrifield
mine burst with aloud report at a
point near the mill. “The force of
the explosion threw » piece of scantling clear over the building, knocked
« window sash through on that side
Of the mill, and twisted out of shape
the section of pipe that gave away.
A strip of wood that held the window-in place struck a workman in
the mill across the héad, making him
think for a moment that his time had
come, but fortunately not injuring
him. The pipe was repaired yesterday. The explosion was probably
caused by the pipe becoming plug.
ged with snow where it tapers before
entering the mill, and water being
let in from the head rushed down
andeémpressed the air behind the
the plug to an extent that the ‘iron
could not stand the pressure.
