nate Chinamen with snow-balls, or rolled
“one another in the snow. A snow storm . ~~~
seems to bring with it an inspiration that
even the sunshine doés not—
‘It dights up the face and it sparkles the eye,
And even the dogs, with a bark anda bound
Snap at the cystals that eddy around—
The town is alive and its heart is aglow,
To welcome the coming of the beantiful snow.”
The gay sledges were out yesterday,
notwithstanding the falling snow flakes,
and they glided over the streets like meteors, the bells making merry musi¢, but
as soon as they left the planking the runners cut through to the ground and the
charm of sleigh riding was lost in the mud
dy reality. From the toll house on the
Washington road; about a mile and a half
from town, the sleighing is first rate for
miles.. Yesterday afternoon a party was
being organized for a sleigh ride to Grass
Valley. As the road to that-place is hard
most of the way,.with sufficient -snow the
sleighing would be excellent; The snow
in this city by night was six inches deep,
—_— _—
We learn from W. H. Davidson, agent
stages left. The snow several days ago
was eight feet deep on a level at Meadow
Lake. This storm will probably “raise it”
several feet. Hopkinson, the expressman,
“arrived here yesterday and reports it snow. ~
“ingfrom here to Dutch Flat. The snow
about-Gregory’s & Marsh’s mill is“ nearly
two feet deep.
lication IN LITTLE Yorx.—A gentleman
who traveled through Little York Township last week, informs us that fully twice
been washed for the past two years. Many
several years have been fitted up and are
being worked. Many new diggings are
being opened and. the miners are “piping”
merrily at the great gravel beds: The cement mines are also yielding handsomely.
It is thought the treasure yield of the
township will be greatly increased this
year.
A Fine SLEIGH.—Clutter & Barton have
just finished one of the finest sleighs we
have ever seen in the mountains. The
wood work was done by Clutter and the
ironing by Barton. It will comfortably accommodate eleven persons and a driver.
It was built for Gregory & English for
that part of their route between Lake.City .
and Moore’s Flat. They have snow enough
to run from one to two months each Winter. :
