action until to-morrow evening. All
members of the Fire Department should
be on hand to hear the report.THE -Ramxoap PROsPECT.—Capt.
Burke, of the: California Pacific read,
called on ts’ yesterday. He says there
is every probability that a railroad will .
be-built from Marysville at least as far
as Penn Valley, to which point it can
be burlt without being compelled to
~evercome heavy grades, and lie thinks
it will be extended through ifienterptise and capital can accomplish it.
The line surveyed to Penn Valley is
as direct as the stage road. je

Wh at the Miners say of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.. _
. During. the, season, when. the Gold Harvest
is generally suspended, and the reapers of
the giittering crop seek the cities to enjoy
themselves, there is, of course, a good deat of
conviviality among this enterprising and
hard working class; but drain-drinking is
not carried to the excess that it was some
years ago. This may fairly be atiributed-to
the growing distaste for raw spirits engendered by the use of HOSTETT#R’S. S'TOM+ ACH. BITTERS,—'Fhis-femous-stomachit 18}
in universal favor with the miners. They
take it with them to the interior, and use it
regularly ;ifot as a beverage, but as a strengthsustaining tonic, and antidote to the unhealthy influences to which they are exposed
m the localities where they labor; and on
returning to the cities and towns, they find in
its refreshing and invigorating properties the
best sate guard, not only against the pis EASES,
but against the pissipaTion of crowded communities, It is one of the peeuliarities of the
preparation that it is an anTiIpoT# To INEBRIETY. Those who take it as an appetizer
and invigorant, aver that they have no desire
whatever for liquor of any description, and,
whatever fanatics may think to the contrary,
HOSTETTER’S BITTERS is a powerful ally
of the temperance’ cause, It is because unmedicated alcohol weakens the stomach and
“the nervous system by it reaction, that it begets a craving tor itself. It excites, and when
the excitement passes off, debility. ensnes,
and more fuel is mceded to renew the artifi _
cial fire that , 80 to speak, burnt itself out.
But the effeet of the great vegetable tonic and
aiterstive is to-invigorate the system perma,
nentlyand healtfully, ee
