Jacobs & Sargent were retorting some amalgam at their blacksmith shop~atQuaker Hill, on Friday night last, some confined gas exploded the machine breaking the cover into three pieces, and scatte bevitig about tliree-} Hundred dollars worth of” the amalgam into the forge and on the floor and yall of. the building. Noticing a peculiar commotion i in the bucket of f water used for condensing the quicksilver, Mr. Sargent raised the conductor, atthe same time reniarking the ~ thing was going to explode,’ when ‘the air was suddenly filled with flying ‘cinders, vapor and amalgam, Some: tall _ traveling ensued, but luckily, the hot mess did not ~ happen to touch the flesh’ 6f the operators. A large part of the amalgam was collected the next day.-.— Sap Accent, On Friday last as s Rich. ard McDonald; a very intelligent and worthy Irishman, was working about the shaft of the Illinois Company’s diggings, he was carried down the shaft-and through the tunnel, hy a. a.rush of water, thereby causing instant death. His, remains were found some half mile below the end of the tunnel. He was.about thirty-five fears of age, and leaves a wife and three small children. He was a large owner in the.
