himself as ready to receive the condemned men into his preseuvs. There

them, there was a» ncticeable difference in the bearing of the two men,
which might have indicated imuch or

George Butts _to arise, a little
wiry, dark complexioned, short whis*
kered man got on to his. feet, and
stood there as immovable as Sugar
Loaf mountain, which could be seen
from thie Courtroom windows. His
eyelids did not even droop, and his
steady nerves and regular breathing
plainly indieated that—if he appreciated his true condition—the man was
“game” tothe core, And when. bis
counsel, John I. Caldwell, asked thit
the sentence of the Judge*be deferred
until Saturday next, ut ten o'clock,
in order that he might show cause
why the verdict was not in accord:
