Citizens Meeting.
Pursoant to call, the Citizens Coms
mittee of about sixty, met at Library
Hail on Tuesday night, to make arTEMS,

drawing of the prizes to be awarded by
the Cosmopolitan Benevolent Society,
On motion, Judge O, P. Stidger, of
San Juan was chosen Chairman of the
meeting and Joha Pattison was elected
Secretary.
A motion was carried, inviting Judge
' Searls and A; B, Gregory, School Tras~
tees, to participate in the meeting.
On motion it wags voted that the
Chair appoint five persons who, with
the School-Trustees, should constitute
an Executive Committee of ‘seven,
whose daty it should be to see that
proper persons are present to superine
tend the drawing at all times, and af
terwards the further duty, of counting
_ the'tags, and seeing thent’ * deposited in
the wheels, was imposed upon the Committee,
The following resolutions in refer.+. ence to the conduct of the drawing and .
~eare of the wheels were unanimously
adopted :
Resolved, That thé Committee ap~
pointed each day to call ‘the numbers
and superintend the drawing of the
Cosmopolitan Lottery, be requested to
string the tags upon: wires, a8
each wheel separately, and that the
tage drawn each day be deposited in
some safe place, su! ject to withdrawal
by the Executive Committee.

and the drawing shall proveed.
A_resolution was. passed, requesting
the Committee at large to be present
at 9 o'clock on the morning of the 18th,
to assist the Executive Committee in
counting and depositing the tags in the
wheels,
After some discussion, the Committee
proceeded to ballot for the choice of a
watchman, whose duty it should be to
watch the wheels after the drawing
was finished on Wednesday evening,
and until it began on Thursday morning. A-vote resulted in the choice of
XK. A. Wadeworth.
The. Executive Committee waé instructed to consult the Cosmopolitan
Society and see what arrangements
could be made fora permanent watch.
On motion the. meeting adjourned, to
meet at the Theatre, at 9 o’clock, Wednesday morning.’ ,
Larceny at San . Suan.
Several months ago a house .kept by
¥ woman at San Juan, was entered. and
~about one hundred dollars’. worth of
family wearing apparel stolen. Rex
cently the loser went back to the place .
and called on another woman when
she saw one ofber missing undergarments, On inquiry sbe was informed
~ that it came from a woman named
‘Bushell who lives with a Frenchman
called “Nicholas,” The woman swore
out a search warrant betore Justice
Stotlar, and upon searching Mrs. Bushell’s honge the clothing was found eat
up, and the Occupants were arrested.
They were tried upon the; charge of
petit larceny and convicted. Mrs.
Bushell was fined $150 which she paid,

sent over and is now serving hie term
out in the Vounty Jail.
