We obtain the following particulars of the killing of a.Chinaman
from Mr. Alexander, of French Corral. It appears that Mr.-A. H. Lewis, of French Corral, went to Rite’s
bridge, on the North Yuba river on
Monday forenoon last for the pur_-pose.of collecting. bills of parties re-. _
siding in that'vicinity. He met John
“Willer on the togd and they traveled .
—together. When: near the bridge,
Mr. Lewis espied a well bucket in
‘front of 2 Chinese cabin, which had
been stolen from his place on Sunday. ‘They got off their horses and
: rapped. atthe door, when ‘a’China-+man made his appearance. Mr.
bucket, but the Chinaman was not
disposed to commit himself upon
the subject. Mr. Lewis asked Mr.
‘Miller to look.out for the Chinaman,
while he went to collect a bill, and
then he would arrest and ‘take him
to French Corral.
been gone but a few minutes when
the Chinaman. concluded to follow
suit. Miller commanded him tostop,
‘and it'seems the Chinaman had gone
as faras he intended to, to get in
possession of an ax. As quick asa
flash he picked up the ax and started
for Mr. Miller. The latter seeing the
Chinaman meant business, drew a
Wesson pistol.and shot the Chinaman dead. :The ball passed through
his head, over the left eye. On his
person wus found five keys, and he
was supposed to bea robbef. Jus. :
tice Newell was notified and held an
inquest upon the body, the evidence
taken being in accordance with the_
above facts. The jury exonerated
Mr. Miller, deeming it a case of
justifiable homicide.
Another Chinaman Killed,
' On Monday night last,a Chinaman
_ entered the Kansas tunnel, owned by . :
—Evans & Davis, at French Corral, for
the purpose of cleaning up the sluice . *
boxes. As soon as he got inside he
fired at him, killing him instantly.
The Chinaman was well fixed to
make a good and succéssful raid, but
was not permitted to have as good a
thing as his other fellow countrymen
had done in the past, and he proba>
bly was ‘the chief of the robbers. >The
people of the ridge have been greatly
annoyed by. the Chinarten stealing
everything in sight;and most of the
companies are compelled to be at
the expense of hiring a watchman to
protect their property. The fate of
this Chinaman may probably bea
warning to other thieves who —

What the Season Suggests.
To assume. warm clothing at the commencement of the cold:season is only an
act of comiven prudence. But something
more than this is required to put the body

any_other means within the province of
medical science, The fact-here stated is as
incontrovertible as a demonstration in
mathematics, Nobody disputes it. It is
® matter of common “belief and of general
record. Here the case might be rested; but
the public, naturally enough, wants te
know why this famous vegetable specific
is so far ahead of all other medicines of its
class. This reasonable curiosity can be
readily gratified. The Bitters comprise five
important elements, viz: a stimulant, atonic, an aperient, and a blood depurent.
Each of these components, as well'as each
of the other subordinate ingredients, is
the purest and best of its kind, They are
‘proportioned im accordance with a formula!
that has been in use for twenty years, and
operate harmoniously and simultaneously.
