A BIBULOUS COMMUNITY.
[Oakland Times.]
The town of Etna, in Siskiyou
county, has a population of 400 people. Last year they paid, according
to'the local paper, at, the rate of
$105 for each person, for whisky.
For that money they could get about
two gallons a month for everybody,
but as the children may not have
contracted bibulous habits, and the
‘. women may prefer to keep sober,
the wonder is how the men can
keep sober enough to mix drinks for
each other.
MORE THAN ONE WAY TO DO IT.
{S. F. Daily Exchange.)
According to the Nevada Transcript, the Chinese of that section
have been known to approach juryrymen in murder trigls, and display
voluptuously-developed sacks, handle them in a careless, easy kind of
a way, and remark: ‘‘You take
this and hang julee; plisoner my
cousin; I no telle; alle same Melican
man; I go San Flancisco in morning;
you hangjulee then julee no hang
my cousin.” In ‘this city there is
no occasion for transfer of wealth.
The indictments are generally drawn
up with a quill pen instead of the

commas or semi-colons mix themand produce a technicality which
