AMongolian Sluice Robber Shot and
Killed. a
John Michell, who came down
yesterday, says that at the North
Bloomfield hydraulic mine, about 9
o'clock Thuraday night, the watchman saw a Chinaman in the ground
sluice at work by the light of a lantern. He fired at the robber, putting a heavy charge of large shot
into his body close to one of his
shoulders,’ and killed him. A pistol
and a silver spoon with about two
bits’ worth of amalgam on it were
found on the corpse,
_ ‘It is believed from the racket
made at the time of the shooting that
_ there were two or three robbers in
the sluice besides the one killed, but
they kept out of sight,
A coroner’s inquest was held and
hunbit
was exonerated from blame.

Arrival of Iron for the Idaho.
The Union says: Three car loads
of iron in sheets, 4 by 6 feet in size,
have arrived from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, for the Idaho company,
and are to be worked into 22° inch
pipe to convey the water to the com.
‘pany’s works, from the “new South
Yuba ditch, torun the machinery.
The iron which has arrived weighs
33 toas, and there is as much more
on the road, which is looked for at
any time. The sheets are of different thickness, the heaviest abont
three-sixteenths of an inch. This
iron was ordered by Peter Johnston,
the hardware merchant, and as evidence of the promptness_with which}
he has filled his contract it may be
stated that it was only thirty-five
days from the time the order was
sent that the iron commenced to arrive, having in the meantime been
}manufactured at Pittsburg. .The
working up of this iron inte piping
will be done at the Idaho mine, and
will be ready for laying. down-by the
time the supply Teservoir is constructed. ;

These mines were closed by injanetions for four months during the
year 1881, which accounts for the
small product of that year. At the
beginning of 1877, the two Companies were in debt over $1,000,000.
Since then this debt has been reduced to $344,009. . These payments
and interest on this indebtness chiefly account for the above discrepancy
between profits and dividends,
