covered the floor. of one of the

it cut in small pieces and. burned
in pots. The ashes were subjected
to the process employed with min~~“ing dust, and they realized $2,500.
Thus, the carpet, after years of
wear, was more precious than

In beginning the year 1885, we desire to briefly
review the record of the year just ended and point
out some:of the things that have sofar contributed
to the popularity and success of our store.. Our
constant aim! has been to,offer such inducements to
the buying. public: that they find itto their own _interest to trade with us, and the large patrofiage we
have been favored with shows that our efforts have
not been thrown away. The four pillars upon which
we have built our business are
Senn crietiitee, —:
One Price,
We have endeavored to keep.at_all times not only
the largest and most complete assortment of Dry
Goods, Fancy Goods and Millinery, but the Most
Fashionable and Freshest of everything in these
lines to be found in the wholesale market.
In fixing prices on our goods
WE DO NO' ASK OURSELVES
“How much will the people be willing to pay” for
this or that article?
“BUT THE QUESTION IS,
“How small a margin can we add to the cost price
and yet do a safe business?”
We know we have been successful in building up
a large trade that is not confined to Nevada City,
but extends to the surrounding country: We do not
believe this could have been done without a strict
observance. of the rules that govern our business
methods.
Thankful for the liberal patronage extended us
during 1884, we confidently hope that it will be acbuyers dnring the year 1885.
Yours Respectfully,
MRS. LESTER & CRAWFORD.
