The Celebration.
_ Yesterday the colored people celebrated in a creditable manner the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in
the United States. ~The celebration
was gotten up by the Lincoln Club
Salutes-were fired andthe bells rung
at sunrise, noon and sunset, and excellent music was discoursed by the Ne»
vada Brass Band, composed of colored
men. Quite a number of visitors from
Grass Valley came up and participated
in the observance of the day. The exercises at the’ Church were very interesting, consisting of voval music and
addresses. The oration was delivered
by George A. Cantine, and an address
was also delivered by Rev. Peter Killingsworth. The celebration concluded
with a dance at Temperance Hall, which
was well attended.
Bad Boys.
Recently several of the locks of the
Post. Office boxes have been broken
pen by bad boys, whe attempt to open
them with keys which do not fit. Sev-. :
eral of the youngsters have been seen in
the set of opening lock boxes in which
they haveno right, and unless the prac.
tice is abandoned an example will be
made of them. Boys have no more
right to open a Post Office box not be-~}
longing to them -than they have a
