Money was never so abundant in this country as itis to-day. It is: so plenty atthe great_commercial centers that-first-class securities are in great demand. The " Gontroller of New York, being in need of a million an a half, recently advertised for proposals: for a loan'at 344 per cent. On opening the bids six times the-amount was bid for at premiums ranging from 134 to 2144 per cent. What s is the use of tatting about hard * times with such a showing. In this ‘calculation the Butler vote in the fusion States is credited to Cleveland and Blaine. ene In New York the most disgraceful scenes occurred at Owen __Geoghegan’s_ funeral, as well as on the way toand from the cemetery. There was—a-struggle for the chief mournership, and two carriages raced for the position and several times both came near being smashed. C.B. Farwell, of Chicago, in an interview, said he had been doing all he could to unite the Republican members of the Illinois State Legislature to vote for \Logan. for United States Senator, and that}— he believed he stood a good show of election. Lr Quona left New York on Saturday night with $3,000 which he had borrowed from his brother Celestials. Quong was President of the Chinésé Cigarmaker’s Association for whom he acted as banker. He is supposed to be in. Canada. +--+ 2» — Tue New York World says that Erie Bayley, the unsuccessiul actor, recently received a remittance of $5,000 from England and has absconded for parts unknown, leaving numerous creditors—hotelkeepers, jewelers, wine merchants, etc. I: Tue Tombstone Epitaph— marks that Pheenix is a modest town. All she seems to care for is the Territorial capital, the proposed _insane_asylum—and_the proposed Territorial University. 2. In beginning the year 1885, we desire to briefly review the record of the year just ended ‘and point out some of the things that have so far contributed Our constant aimmhas been to offer such inducements to
to thée~popularity and success of our store.the buying public-that they. find it to their own: interest to trade with us;and the large patronage we ‘have been favored with shows that our efforts have not been thrown away. The four-pillars upon which we have built our business are J ustice, Imp artiality, One Price, Absolute Satisfaction. We have endeavored to keep at all times not only the largest and most complete assortment: of Dry ;Goods, Fancy Goods and Millinery, but the Most Fashionable and Freshest of everything in these lines to be. found in the wholesale market. In fixing prices on our. goods WE DO NOr ASK OURSELVES “How much will the people be willing to pay” for this-or that-article? BUT. THE QUESTION IS, “How small.a margin can we add to cost price and yet do a safe business?” * We know we have been successful in building up a large trade that is not confined o -Nevada City, but extends to the surrounding country. We do not believe this could have been done without a stric observance of the rules that govern our business pitethods5 iia Sie a alae ae Thankful for—theliberalpatronage~extended-us during 1884, we confidently hope that it will be accorded to us by the appreciative and discriminating buyers dnring the year 1885 Yours Respectfully, MRS.
