Pat. A TERRIBLE ADVENTURE AND Won. DERFUL EscaPE.—A few days since, says the Alta of Thursday, a wood-chopper cutting weod or the ridge of the coast range, in San Mateo county, above Woodside, -was caught under a falling redwood tree, some three feet in diameter. He was alone at the time, and his situation was terrible beyond description. The heavy trunk of the tree lay across both his legs crushing him down into the earth and his frantic shouts for assistance reached the ears of no one, being drowned by the roar of the storm which then prevailed. After laying with both legs crushed through the long, stormy night drenched at every minute by the falling torrents, he at last commenced to cut his way out with his axe. Foralong time the treecontinued settling down on him as fast as he chopped the soft wood away from around his legs. At last however, after two days’ almost incessant labor, he drew his mangled limbs out from beneath the trunk, and succeeded in crawling, weak and exhausted as he was, to the cabin where his comrades were staying from thence he was taken to--Redweed City and placedunder the care ofa surgeon. His sufferings had been so long. protracted and -his broken limbs became so inflamed that the surgeon fears that he will be unable to save either of them, amputation being required in both cases above the knee. Such an instance of prolonged suffering and wonderful éshood, having been at work but a few days and his name was not ascertained by our informant.
