little has hitherto-been reached in
the treatment of liver disease is because the
philosophy of treatment has been lame and
tie remedies employed have, been inadequate. It isa conceded fact that until within the past few years there has been no
known remedy for chronic ledney diseases,
and it is certain that the liver cannot be restored to its right action if the kidneys are
affected. Itis also afect that when the liver
jis diseased the kidneys .are also troubled;
hénce, it follows that livar diseases are hard
‘ to-cure, chiefly because dhe doctors know of
no agency which will at. one and the samo
time operate on both the kidneys and.the
liver.
Admitting then, thet no form of treatment ean be effective which does not seek to

Liver troubles are caused principally by
malaria, which is, at the: present time, becoming #o great an evil in, tiie land,—so
much so that President Paul’ A Chadbourne,
of Williams College, has just published’ long
andinteresting article on its wide-spreading
prevalence. He states that malarial poisons
appear in-all jocalities, the high-and-dry,the
low and damp, in.the crowded city and the
roomy ceuntry, and there are no differences
as to the effects produced. Malaria is in the
water we drink, in the air we breathe, in the
food we eat, and while vonstantly and naturally increasing with the growth of the counry, it is just at present afflicting us, as the
epizooty did @ few years ago, as a widespread.dad dangerous epideniic,
What, therefore, can the cause for this
rrible increase of malaria in all parts of the
states and territories? Unquestionably the
drinking water used in every portion of the
land is, most active agency for carrying
malaria into thesystem: ‘This water may be
clear, bué eh ms mee ap dip
tion th: the vaults, cess; 8 rn:
yards io the country, and other impure
agencies im. the city. Heretofore the Western states and territorics.and alinost the entire South have been considered the field of
malaria, owing doubtless to the poor drainayze
in many. ities and the consequent -accumt’atiomof green poisonous matter, ‘This.
th is, however, now exploded, because
sulral isoning is becoming just as common olor regions, a8 those which have
beéhi settled for hundreds of years.
Whatever may be the chuse of malaria, its
existenceis’@ terribly established fact, and
26 much se that it is attracting the attention
of the leading physicians, —— and
tholars in ev postes of America, By
pee of ite blight ing powers the blood becomes and the most terrible diseases follow. The special field for the .
tion of this poison is in the liver. Ir thi
is at all. diseased, malaria siezes it
withadeath grip. It is therefore absolusely
necessary tokeep the liver in perfect comditien.and ially at this time: Theslements of. Warnes Sefe Kidney and finer
