CHINESE ME MEDICINES.
‘whetrHestiness=soine Nevada
: County Men ‘Who Got Dosed.
The Virginia City Enterprise
says: The
astier the medicine
the more e cacious, is the Chi__nese idea. It is by means of nasty
messes that they disgust and drive
out of the patient the particular
bad spirit or demon constituting
_. the disease. In the early days in
~~ ‘the ‘town of Grads Valley, the writer became cognizantof a case of
Chinese medical practice of which
he is reminded. ~
eee miner by the name of -Bill
~~ ‘Wallace was greatly afflicted with
rheumatism. He was finally in_ duced to consult a Chinese doctor
-~ who had-the-reputation of being:
“death on rheumatism.’’ The
. doctor gave Billa quart. bottle o!
medicine, with instructions totake
three swallows three times a day.
Finding that the: medicine tasted
like a pretty good article of brandy,
Bill took about four swallows four
times a day.
'. By the tinie~the medicine wae
gone-the rheumatism had aldo
disappeared. Seeing darkly
through the: colored glass of the
bottle what appeared to be’ pieces
~~ of bark and roots, Bill concluded
to smash the bottle and discover
the secret of the ‘‘bitters’’ he had
been taking. To his aaguat he

three lizards of various and variegated colors.
There is nothing unwhdlesome
about an ordinary lizard, yet Wallace’s discovery was bad for the
.doctor’s practice among the rheu‘matic. Up at. Omega, Nevada
county, we had at our cabin a big
‘coffee-pot, the grounds of which
_were cléaned out only about once
_-a-week. Orie week*all hands observed a great improvement in the
coffee. Some one asked if it had
not been cleared with an egg or a
piece of codfish skin.On Sunday,
the coffee-pot as usual, the secret
@ came out. Among the grounds
were found the boiled and ragged
________ remains of a lizard.
PILES! PILES! PILES!
A B8URE .CURE FOUND AT LAST!
No One Need Suffer.
A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding,
Itching and Ulcerated Piles har
been discovered by Dr, Williams
(an Indian Remedy,) called Dr.
William’s Indian Pile Ointment.
A single box has cured the worst
chronic cases of 25 or 30 years
standing. No one need suffer five
minutes after applying this wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions,
instruments and electuaries do
more harm than good. ~~ William’s
ndian Pile Ointment absorbs the
umors, allays the intense itching,
(particularly at night after getting
, warm in bed,) acts as a poultice,
gives instant relief, and is prepar‘\. ed only fer Piles, itching of the pri‘yate parts, and for Bening 2 else.
“Read what the Hon. J. M. Coffinberry of Cleveland says about Dr
. William’s Indian Pile Ointment:
“I have used scores'of Pile Cures,
and it affords me pleasure to say
that I have never folind anything
which gave such immediate and
rmanent relief a8 Dr. William’s
