New Mixixe Distuict,—A new mining
district has just been discovered. in: this
county, -Whieh bide fair to mval the: famous Excelsior district in ‘richness, if not
in extent.’ Some eight or ten ledges,
resembling very much the ledges of Excelsior, and prospecting equally well, have al“ready been located. The district is near
: the Culbertson grade and ubout twe miles
north of the Yuba river. The ledges are
large and well defined. They run north
and South, and may be easily traced by the
croppinge. A working assay hias been made
‘and the rock yielded $285 50 to. the ton.—
The lecators in this district will £0 work
immediately to develop the leads and test
their. value by mill crushing. The indiéations are-that another rich district will be
added to the large number already
opened
in this county.
THE Bripcerowt Rosbery.—From
Louis Nathan) whe was robbed on Thursday
last near the Bridgeport crossing of the
Yuba, we obtain the following additional
facts: Nathan and his companion started
from Empire Ranch fur San Juan. They
were coming up the grade from Biidgeport
wheg three men came out from. behind the
bank, where the road makes a short turn —
One of them seized the team, and the others
called to the inmates to throw up their
hands. Nathan ‘attempted to get at his
derringer, but was caught by éne uf the
rubbers, and his arm almost twisted out o
the socket. They took eighty-five dollars

in coin and a trunk containing about $6;000
worth of jewelry. Immediately, upon the
arrivalof the party et San Juan, Bob
Huckins, constable, gathered » posse and
started fur the scene of ‘the robbery. He
mile from the spot to the banks of the Yus
ba river, where he tound the fragments of
the trunk. The spoi! was probably divided
by the robbers at this~spot, and they must
have taken different courses, A reward of
$250 hus been offered for the arrest of the
rogues,
IMMENSE STRIKE.—Yesterday a quartz
ledge which surpasses anything in richness,
we have seen fur many a day, was struck
about twenty yards buck of the Natienal
Exchauge Hotel, and within two minutes
walk of the most thickly settled part of the
town. The ledge is called the Itahan and
is owned by Sanguinetti aud others.
claim is seven hundred feet. The lead was
discovered in the cellar of one of the owners, and was traced toan old shed formerly
used for stering charcoal. Here a shaft
was sunk, and at adepth of thirty-two feet
from the surface the ledge was found, three
feet wide; In every bucket of rock brought
picked, which.sparkled with free gold. It
will pay at least five hundred dollars to the
ton. Much of the’rock contains any amount
of splendid looking sulpburets, We have before us now a piece of rock from the ledge,
which sparkles with free gold. The. ledge
runs through a number of gardens slong
Spring street. Yesterday afteraooun several
hundred persons examined the rock and the
ledge was claimed on either extension for
miles. This’ ledge has been walked over
by many persons for years but it was probs
ably thought toonear home tobe rich. We
think ities the greatest discovery that has
been made for months.
Tue CaNNnon.—The cannon purchased
forthe Fourth of July, will arrive in this
city tomorrow. On the Fourth it will be
fired from the summit of Sugar Loaf, and
will no doubt be heard all through the
county. ;
Company Parape.—The Nevada Light
Guard will parade in full uniform on Monday evening next. Every member of the
Company is expected to be on hand, as this
will be the last drill before the Fourth.
