Base Ban Cius—The young men
of this city met at-the Nevada Hosé
Co’s house, on Tuesday evening, and
organized a base ball club, The meet? .
ing was-largely -attended;-and ‘there is
every prospect. that Nevada will soon
=f
"boast of some of the best ball players
in the State. Committees were appointed
to perfect the organization, “and the following officers were elected: President,
J, W.-Clark ; Vice President, George F.
Meek ; Secretary, George W. Lovie ; . }
Treasurer, William ‘Pa¥ker; Censor,
A. Davenport ; Captain of First Nine,
¥. 8. Hinds ; Directors, William Stiles,
E.W. Hayden, John Hanly. A large
nuniber are anxious to become members
and the ranks will be filled without
difficulty. We*hope soon to see the
heroes of the bat and ball in the field.
Tue Fourth of July was celebrated
in a becoming manner at Meadow Lake.
The Sun says the oration was delivered
by H. G. Rollins, and at the close of the
exercises a resolution was adopted, asking him to furnish a copy of it for publication in the Meadow Lake Sun. The
Declaration of Independence was well
read by J. A. Brumsey, Esq. Judge Tiltord, as President of the Day, made an
apprepriate, impressive and eloquent
speech at the commencement of the
eeereines ;
_ A-NEW roasting furnace has been invented by Messrs. Knapp & Peacock, of
Meadow Lake, which the Sun thinks is
a decided improvement upon any now
in use. Twelve hundred pounds of sulphuret rock from Union Ledge No. 2,
burnt in a small prospect furnace, constructed after the Knapp & Peacock
model, was completely desulphurized.
It takes about two and one half hours
to destroy the sulphurets,
Eye DeEsTroyeD.—George, son of
Chas. W. Cornell, aged about eight
years, had his eye cut out—by—a-rock
thrown by another boy with whom he
was playing, on Tuesday night,
little fellow went home with the
ball, which fell upon his chee
hand. During the night
intense pain, but was easiér ) esterday.
——
‘PLAYED OUT. one has advanced the theory that the earth is gradually cooling, and in process of time it
will becomé too cold for the habitation
of < This is said to be caused by
the gradual diminution of the heat of
esun. Toexplode this theory, it is
only necessary to call to mind the heat
of the past few days. Things look now
as if “old Sol” had taken a back tiack,
and was coming towards us with a determination to scorch the country.
CHILDREN aT MEADOW LAKE.—The
report of the School Census Marshal of
Altamont District, which includes Meadow Lake Mining District, shows that
there are 106 children between five and
fifteen years of age, Of this number
fifty-seven are boys and forty-nine girls.
There are fifty-six children in the District under five years of age. This
gives a total of 162 children under fif.
teen years of age.
THE MURDER TRIAL.—The trial o¢
Ah Louie for murder, was continued in
the District Court yesterday. The
theory of the defence was that the
wounds were not inflicted by the prisoner but by the Chinaman who came
into the room as two witnesses testified, and held the victim by the back of
the neck. The defense claim that the
‘witnesses are mistaken in the identity
of the than. The case was given to the
jury yesterday afternoon, and a verdict
of guilty of murder in the first degree
rendered.
A VALUABLE DocuMENnT.—Yesterday
the deed for the transfer of the North
Star mine at Grass Valley, was filed in
the County. Recorder’s office. The consideration is $450,000 and the document has $450 worth of Revenue stamps

looked on with confidence by all who
have usedthem. At this season of the 5
year, when the’ system is liable to disease, they act admirably as a preventa.
tive. Being an excellent tonic and
blood purifyer, and a very pleasant bev-erage withal, they are bound to become
very popular, Sarsaparilla, one of the
best blood purifyers, is one of the in-,
gredients used in the Bitters. G

which they are selling wholesale or retail at agent’s rates. es
RHIGOLENE SpPRAyY.—Those suffering .
with Odontalgia (or toothache, which is
the same thing)’ and desiring teeth extracted without pain, should call on Dr.
C. E. Davis, dentist, near the Wisconsin
Hotel, Grass Valley. He is using RureOLENE SPRAY with great success in extracting teeth. Chloroform administered when desired. je 18 Raspes.
