‘NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA, —
nano
sd ae A NE ER
Nortite To Crry Property Honpers.
LOCAL: INTELLIGENCE
THe, Evkcriox.—The election of.
nominees under the Crawford plan, for
county yesterday. The contest. was
lively, but good-feeling prevailed among
the candidates and their friends. The
“members of the party generally voted
without the interposition of politicians:
and the result may be taken ag a fair
expression “of the sentiment of thé
party. In this-city —559votes were
‘polled. The vote in Grass Valley was
about 359.
MINING ABOVE THE CASCADES.—
. Considerable activity is manifested this
season in prospecting on Uppér Deer
Creek. Several companies are busy
running tunnels and others are making
preparations to do so, One of our citizens contracts to run a tunnel about
200 feet: and thoroughly prospect ,the
ground for one-half the claim, and is
satisfied that he has a “good thing.”
Another company across the creek are
making arrangements to commence
work, in order to reach the gravel
channel and be ready tor washing when
the rains setin. The region of country
in the vicinity of the Cascades will yet
prove as rich as any in the county.
eo
No Warenr.—For about a week past
water has been shut off from most of
the ditches of the South Yuba Canal
Co., and many feared that the supply
for the season had failed. It was ascertained, however, that the ~ small
amount of water coming down was
caused by some disarrangements in the
works of the Company near ‘the lakes.
These having been repaired, the heart
’ of the miner was made glad again yesterday by receiving his usual supply of
water, and the happiness and contentment of Swimley’s boarders are as nothing compared to his feelings.
Brown’s Hiit.—The hydraulic diggings at Brown’s Hill, near You Bet,
in this couaty, have not been work~
' ed very steadily this season, on account
of the scarcity of water. Williams &
Co.. have worked: most of the time.
Their average clean up for a two weeks”
run is $1,500. Brown Bros. have just
completed a drain tunnel and will start
their cement mill in a few-days. When
the mill is running, they clean up from
$2,000 to $3,000 per week. Neece &
West have just completed a tunnél,and
are now running powder drifts prepara.
tory to blasting. They will use 200
kegs at a blast. The black powder is
employed. There are several other
good claims, which, owing to the scarcity of water, will not start up until the
Fall rains setin. —

dent of this city, and well known to
our citizens, died in the former. place
very suddenly on Friday afternoon last
‘The news of his death was received with
surprise by his many triends.
