Presipent Artuur has given up
catbe.trip to Yellowstone, He says
teucs-.bhat it will have to wait until he is a
private citizen and can with propriety get out of reach by telegraph for
& week or two. When he inquired
last week of a Signal officer how
long it -would-take to run a military
telegraph temporarily to Yellowstone Park from the point nearest to
it on the Northern Pacific Railway,
ay his idea was that it might take a
week, and. would probably cost $500
or $600, which he intended ‘to pay
out of his own pocket. He found
however, that it would take more
time and very much more money
than he had estimated. The President thought this too high a price to
pay for a picnic among the Geysers.
He says he has deferred~his trip until the summer of 1885,

The Sun, while indorsing Judge

are not white persons within the
meaning of the statute regulating
naturalization, thinks some Chinamen may have been lawfully naturalized between the time of the ‘ enactment of the revised statutes and the
passage of the Act to correct errors

BgERKELEY furnishes a. sensational
atory, wherein the two chief characters are a young farmer from Antioch named Joy, and Magyie, a pretty cook at Terminus Hotel, It appeara that the rural swain, after
selling his farm for $5,000, boarded
at the hotel, and fell in love with
the kitchen belle, She finally consented to matrimony, but the night
before the wedding she went to her
aunt’s in San Francisco, having repented her engagement, Joy is” going to Washington Territory.
VERNON, this star-route juror who

worth several thousand dollars ani

SatTorpay night Marshal Henry,

others were wounded. Owen is still

This interesting bit of news is
from the Daily Report: A change
will shortly be made in the Presidency of the State University. President Keid is an amiable gentleman,
and has paid strict attention to his
duties as the presiding officer of the
institution, but unfortunately for
the University as well as for himself
he if not the man for the position,
The University does not command
the respect it deserves and is not
strong enough with the people.
Young men who should attend the
University are sent to Eastern colleges, not because the . University
course is lacking in any of the prime
essentials but mainly for the reason
that the head of the University is
not active, enterprising and influential. The University needs a man

SALICYLICA is known as a common

the cause of Rheumatism, Goutand Neuralgia, while so many so-called specifics ana
supposed panaceas only treat locally the effects, ‘
It has been conceded by eminent scientists that outward applications, such as rubbing with oils, ointments, jiniments and
soothing lotions will not eradicate those diseases which are the result of the poisoning
of the blood with Uric Acid.
SALICYLICA works. with marvelous effect on this acid and so removes the disorder. It is now exclusively used by all celebrated physicians of Europe. Highest Medical Acacemy of Paris reports 95 per cent.

upWe nna say too much in praise of this invention. Yet we feel that
we need not say more than call your attention to the following illustration
and description which shows you its merits and completeness,
i}
This invention relates to folding supports for the legs and feet; and it
consists iu details of construction and arrangement of the several parts, as
will be hereinafter described. ;
Figure 1 is a prospective view, showing the support in use; Fig. 2, a
porspective view of the support; Fig. 3, a detail sectional view of the
fastening device for the handle; Fig. “4, aside elevation of the support
when folded.
The parts are held securely and compact, and can be readily carried,
The frame A and foot-rest caa be upholstered, or simply made. a light

TESTIMONIALS.
i
Nevapa City, June 17th, 1883;
A. Tam:—The undersigned having heard of the late invention patented
by you, known as A. Tam’s leg and foot-rest, sought relief by obtaining
one; and I now take pleasure in assuring my many friends after having
used the rest, that it has been to me both a comfort and a luxury.
I feel assured that it will certainly be a solace to all invalids who may
use it, and a comfort toall mankind of sedentary habits or occupations
who may use it, ; ABRAHAM SANFORD,
To A. Tam, Patentee of the Leg and Foot-Rest:
1
Nevapa Crry, Cal., June 17th, 1883.
Dear Srtr:—Having used your Leg and Foot-Rest, I take pleasure in
recommending it to all, It ie a self-adjusting rest. It easily accommodates a person in any sitting position: It is-portable and convenient. It
is both a luxury and a comfort. ~Its construction is neither complex or
cogtly. It is the great desideratum for reading rooms, and for invalids.
The economy of its construction will doubtless secure for it general use.
: Respectfully Yours,
. J. I. Carpwet.
Atty at Law, Nevada City, Cal.
: Nevapa Crry, June: 15th, 1883.
A. Tam: Sir:—I have tested your foot and leg-rest to an extent that
convinces me that while to the healthy it affords great gratification, to
the aged and afflictea it would be an indescribable Deneft and pleasure.
Yours Most Truly,
R, M. Hunt, M. D.
_ Nevapa Crry, Cal., June 22nd, 1883.
A. Tam, Esq.: Dear Sir:—Having used that ingenious invention of yours

Mr. A. Tam: Dear Sir:—For some time I have used your foot and leg
rest, and it has become an indispensable luxury, ~
When reading in my study, or after returning from an exhaustive walk,
I am_ no longer at a loss where to put or how to adjust my feet and limbs.
